That’s what happened today.

The pound dropped to $1.20+, the lowest level in at least four decades, bar 4 minutes right after the Brexit vote.

I’m hoping that the pound goes to par, so I can swoop in and buy London property at a deep discount!

Even if they are even, there is no cheap property in London

Its not the actual cost..... If most of his liquid assets are in US $ they exchange rate will save him and work out in the long run if he sells and the rates are in his favor the other way around ...its win win

I owned a pad in Tokyo for 3 years I was there maybe 4 times :113::10:

Assuming the pound recovers. I expect it to get even closer to the dollar when Brexit happens

investing and risk
A lot of it is timing and some luck

The time to have picked up cheap real estate in England was back in the 70s and 80s.

Post war governments went after the landed gentry with a fervor and taxed the landed estates out of existence. Over 3,000 manor houses were obliterated. Many of those went to the state for tax debt.

Even in the '80s, you could pick up hundreds of acres of prime real estate with a manor house, stables, and extras for a million pounds.

It's ironic that liberals love shows like 'Downton Abbey', when it was liberal and socialist governments in England that destroyed them.

That is a bizarre analysis of the British land and housing situation.

In fact agricultural land values are on the slide as farmers expect to be bankrupted by brexit.

Agricultural land values to hit five-year low - Farmers Weekly

London prices have rocketed for several reasons. Not least the UKs relaxed attitude to seeing dictators and gangsters invest in London property as a safe haven.

The Brexit chickens are roosting. A terrible idea at the time is now manifesting all that was wrong with it.
The biggest laugh is that, the British government having gotten itself into this awful situation, it now expects (again) the Europe (that it wanted to leave) to solve the obstacles that remain.
Europe negotiated with a British government and reached its ultimate deal. Now, another British government expects Europe to go over it all again just for the benefit of England? They refuse to revisit the original leave vote, but demand that Europe revisit what was decided. British logic.

Even your own article indicates the slide started before brexit due to commodity prices falling.

Anyway, cheaper land takes away more of the barrier to creating more social housing.

Nope, agricultural land is cheaper. But you cant build housing on that. Development land is still expensive.

Laws can be changed....and you can build on agricultural land. Farmers need houses and barns

At one point, nearly every acre of England was agricultural land.

That is an issue that gets discussed around the margins of conservation and environmentalism in the UK. There is no native spots to be able to say this is what it should look like.

Its different in the UK. In the US when you ran out of land you just killed a few more Sioux and moved on. Not an option over here.

No it isn't different in the us. You just go through the agriculture prior notice consent process by building the ag parts first and then getting permission to build the house....or you an live on it illegally for 4 years and then you can get a certificate of lawfulness. However, the government can just change the law if they want.
