It remained unclear if they knew that he was in possession of an AR-15 rifle that belonged to his father.

That is not enough information to determine if his target was Trump

Which is my point that a little information get change to meet a narrative.

Based on this story the parents just reported their gun stolen and that it was probably the son and they were worried what he might dol. No clear statement on what he was going to do with the gun.

If you believe that is enough information for them to cancel the event. Well in hindsight it is. Bt based on the parents report it would not be enough to convince Trump to cancel the event.
