... he also vows to "upend Obamacare subsidies"...

Commentary- Democrats shut down the government for 40 days and got less than nothing in return.

All those people laid off without pay, all those people forced to work with no pay, all those people who didn't get their benefits, who couldn't feed their families, they all suffered because the Democrats shut down the government with no plan, no strategy, no forethought.

To protect a failing healthcare program that everyone told them would be a failure.

Hell, Massachusetts elected a Republican Senator in an attempt to stop them.

But they rammed it though anyway... and here we are, shutting down the government to save temporary COVID subsidies to keep the wheels from falling off Democrats ACA folly.

Uh. How exactly can you get insurance without giving money to an insurance company?

This might be the most retarded statement since Trump declared George Washing took over the airports at Valley Forge.

If Øbamacare was worth anything, subsidies would not be necessary.

And a huge percentage of those subsidies go to well-off people.

44 million people are on Obamacare. 44 million. If there was a better option, guess what? They’d be on some other ******* plan.

Instead of giving the subsidies directly to the insurance companies, you give it to the people and let them decide where they want to use it. Let them choose what type of healthcare insurance they want.

Don't you trust the people to make their own decisions?

They are on Obamacare because that's where the subsidies are.

If the subsidies went directly to the consumer, they may well make different choices for their healthcare provisions.

And when "the people" spend health insurance premium money on a trip to Las Vegas and then show up at their local hospital, unless they live by a rural hospital that's been closed, and receive care without insurance, I just know you won't mind paying for them. ;)

AI Overview

Government programs and providers pay for the medical care of uninsured people through a combination of public funding and charity care. The federal, state, and local governments are the largest payers, with funds coming from programs like Medicaid, public assistance, and direct support to hospitals. If a patient qualifies for assistance programs, hospitals can apply for retroactive coverage, and other providers may offer discounted rates or payment plans.

We absolutely need more follies like this.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is considered successful in expanding health insurance coverage, making it more affordable through subsidies and tax credits, and implementing key consumer protections like coverage for pre-existing conditions. It has led to a record low uninsured rate and increased access to preventative care. However, challenges remain, such as about 30 million Americans still being uninsured and a lack of universal support for Medicaid expansion in all states.

Achievements of the ACA

Remaining challenges
    • Persistent coverage gaps: Despite the ACA's success, about 30 million Americans remain uninsured.
    • Incomplete Medicaid expansion: Ten states have not expanded Medicaid, leaving many low-income residents without coverage.
    • Cost concerns: Some individuals still find it difficult to afford healthcare costs, and debate continues over the law's overall impact on healthcare costs.

This chart assumes you are stupid. Don’t fall for it. First the eligibility was raised and therefore of course new people eligible are higher income than the ******* people already eligible. Duh.

Second, this shows eligibility not enrollment. This study shows that the enrollees were lower and middle income families, not high income families. “The recent growth in ACA Marketplace plan enrollment has been driven primarily by low-income people, with signups by people with incomes up to 2.5 times poverty growing 115% since 2020.” “Low-income enrollees (those with incomes up to 2.5 times the federal poverty level) have driven most (83 %) of the enrollment growth in the ACA Marketplaces from 2020 to 2024.”

Third, the statement that households of $200k or more (double the household income) made most of the expansion is 100% untrue.

Subsides shouldn't be needed, if Øbamavare wasn't the lie it was from the beginning.

People like you fell for the lies, and still are.

And when they choose to spend it on a Caribbean Cruise and a few months later show up at the emergency room with no insurance?

At least try to arrive informed dummy. Democrats are gifting $10's of billions of OUR money to insurance companies with zero requirements whatsoever that the money be used to lower premiums, they just pocket the cash. Now piss off back to your troll cave.

They're going to have to pay the bill.

We cannot protect people from their piss poor decisions. That is not the role of government.

I'd say it is not the role of government to hand out other people's money... but here we are.

Of the two choices, handing health insurance companies a blank check or letting the people decide what to do with the money, give it too the people. If healthcare is important to them, they'll get it. If not it goes back into the economy and not directly into CEOs pockets.

Insurance companies will have to compete for those subsidies.

Just like college loans, throwing more government money at these institutions almost guarantees monumental increases.

I don't have insurance... I have health savings. I spend money when I need healthcare and save it when I don't... and the doctors and hospitals give me a huge discount for paying cash... often far better than the negotiated discount offered to insurance companies.

Why is that?

Funny how the 30 million uninsured was the reason we needed Obiecare and all we have to do now is figure out how to get the 30 million uninsured taken care of.
