Once the massive socialist policies and the immigration act was passed in the mid 1960's the fundamental change occurred. That with the massive expansion of government at all levels and the massive salary increases put us on a course. When Limbaugh started our economy was stronger than today. The size of government at the federal, state and city levels is humongous. Add them together it may be half the GDP now. And it is cumbersome.
