If you think that gun control advocates are going to remain silent every time another nut takes a semi-automatic weapon and guns down innocent people at random, in what seems to be becoming a monthly event, then you are, indeed, living in an alternative universe.

Well, I own a 38 special revolver, a 9 MM automatic, a 7.62X54 Mosen Nagant, as well as the same calaber Chinese carbine, both fully serviceable rifles from WW2. I am not opposed to guns. In my alternative universe, we seek to to make sure that nobody can legally buy a gun without a background check. In my universe, we seek to outlaw "cop-killer" ammo, and 30 round magazines. In my alternative universe, I am a member of a rifle range, and practice monthly. With My 22 rifle with a scope, i can shoot the top off of a Tobasco bottle at 25 yards.

In 2012 there were 7, second highest to 1991 for one year in all of US history; 1991 had 8. There were also 7 in 1999.

The Assault Weapons Ban:

1995-2004 = 16 mass shootings (16 in 10 years)

After the Ban ended:

2005 - 2012 = 27 (27 in 9 years)

Those are the facts. It is a very different situation than it used to be in the first half of the 20th Century. As well, the ban on assault weapons seems to have had some effect on these mass shooting, a positive effect.

As well, ask anyone who lives in another modern Western country which has strong gun control and you will find these type of shootings are rare, if they happen at all.

I don't understand how people can find this acceptable or justifiable. I don't see how it can be said, oh well, people die in car crashes, they are murdered with knives, by being stomped on, etc. This kind of thing, these type of shootings, are preventable deaths, or at least you could try to prevent them with tough gun control laws: which HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO WORK in other modern Western countries.

But...I didn't trust the government with a defacto registration BEFORE I found out they were spying on every American.

Was just reading the story on Reuters, its funny that they dont know what gun was used but use the words "Like an AR-15" I guess rueters puts their opinions, ever so slightly... in their storys as well.

The AR-15 despite being able to spray at the rate of (as one poster said) 30 rounds a minute, was being used in a manner as to only fire one bullet at a time. No one heard rapid fire.

The news last night was quite clear that this gun is illegal in the state of California. No doubt it was easy for the shooter to acquire a gun. It just wasn't acquired legally.
