CAIRO (AP) — A Palestinian official says a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will be announced within hours in Cairo.

The truce agreement would end the weeklong fighting between the two sides.

In details of the agreement obtained exclusively by The Associated Press, the official said Israel would cease all military activity against the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and Palestinian militants would cease rocket attacks into Israel. After 24 hours of quiet, Gaza's border crossings with Israel would be opened further to allow freer movement of goods and people.

Actually, the "agreement" was shoved up hamas' arse by Egypt, prodded by the US-EU. Egypt stands to get about $12 bln. of the US-EU money, so, missing the dough was not an option, of course.

Israel and the Hamas movement which governs Gaza have agreed a ceasefire to end a week of violence in which nearly 160 people have died, Egyptian and Hamas officials say.

Israel's demands included an end to hostile fire of any kind from Gaza and international efforts to prevent Hamas from re-arming. For its part, Hamas wanted an end to the blockade on Gaza and targeted killings by Israel.

Israel has accepted the deal, according to a statement released from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel launched its current offensive a week ago with the killing of Hamas military leader Ahmed Jabari.
