President Trump today pardoned protestors arrested on January 6th, leaving jails completely empty after Joe Biden had released everyone else from prison after his record number of pardons before leaving office. "I'm not sure, but I think DOGE will be pleased", said Trump. "Think of the millions and millions of dollars saved with jails being closed around the country."

"We can use some of that money to fund a Mars mission", said DOGE coordinator Elon Musk. "I just don't want people to think we will frivolously spend their tax dollars on stupid stuff like they usually do. After all, Mars has a lot of,........................... well......................, red rocks we are all very interested in studying. Who knows, maybe we will find microscopic evidence of life!! That would be awesome!! If not, oh well. I will still have my red rock collection I've always wanted. Again, that would be awesome!!"

Damn! That is spot on! :auiqs.jpg:

IMO, other planetary living is not viable.
At best it would be the best man do to recreate God's nature
into a man-made facsimile, so that's what it would be.
Not optimal for human beings. And then there's Murphy's Law.
I cannot bring myself to tell Elon Musk that.
He's so gassed right now, maybe a little later..
He just may get something to Mars and back, and that would be a
heck of an accomplishment.

I get it. I, like Elon, used to be obssessed with space exploration. I still enjoy reading about it.

But the more I learned, the more I realized living off this planet is simply not viable.

If man did go to Mars, they would have to immediately go underground to try and evade deadly intergalactic gamma rays that we are shielded from on earth due to the magnetism of earth's core.

Shrug. We are all stuck here.

Will those political prisoners now receive money from the government for their pain and suffering?

They should all sue.
I think accepting a pardon would preclude that.

To succeed in a lawsuit after a pardon, you must generally demonstrate that you were actually innocent of the crime you were convicted of, not just that the pardon was granted due to mitigating circumstances

They can sue the US federal government

Even without the pardons, democrats are never held to account for anything anyway.

All those men and women kicked out of the military for refusing the Covid shot will be reinstated with back pay.

they can't sue for false arrest.
They can only sue for wrongful conviction
So they would have to prove they were innocent, which is best done in a court of law, or on appeal.
A pardon precludes that avenue (appeal)

They would have to have a civil trial where the bar for upholding a conviction is preponderance of the evidence, and not beyond a reasonable doubt.

AI Overview

To prove innocence in a civil trial after a criminal conviction, a defendant can present new evidence that was not available during the criminal trial, demonstrate that the civil case requires a different standard of proof (preponderance of evidence vs. beyond a reasonable doubt), and argue that the facts of the civil case are distinct from the criminal case, even if the underlying conduct is similar, allowing them to present a different narrative and challenge the plaintiff's claims with their own evidence; essentially, they must convince the civil court that even though they were found guilty in a criminal case, the facts in the civil case do not establish liability on their part.
