I have no problem with these people coming here for a better life. That's what America has always been about. My great-grandfather was an illegal alien here from Italy for 25 years before he got his citizenship.
The problem with what's happening right now on the southern border is who takes care of all of these kids and the others coming across. If they could all go out and get jobs and start supporting themselves then it's not a big deal. Back during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when we had a mass of migration from Europe those people came here and they found work or they starved and died. Today, we taxpayers get put on the hook for taking care of these people and that's the crux of the issue here as I see it.
When your great-grandfather came in through Ellis Island he was mug-shot and fingerprinted and had to provide an address where he would be staying. If he had a disease he was put in quarantine until he could be sent back. If he had a criminal record in Italy he was sent back. If was anti-American he was sent back.
A little different circumstances than we face today and you should get that.
