I've read two of these books. The first in the series that he wrote, and the first in the series based upon time chronology in the series.
Jordan (died before the series ended by someone finished it) writes about a fantasy world with magic and monsters, but manages, for the most part, to make it not only believable, but he also writes in detail that kind of makes you connect with the characters more than most other authors do.
Unlike Stephen King, he does it in a way that makes you not realize you're reading so much detail.
