I think he should keep accept the invitation, and give the Republican candidates the chance to rebut Obama on air and in detail. It is not like Obama is going to actually say anything new in his speech after all, and it would prove to everyone just how incompetent the man is.

i agree. obama would look cheap for pulling this stunt and the pubs would come out looking better for being 'courteous' in letting obama go first. obama would look foolish because no one but the die hard left wackos would believe obama didn't plan the speech at that time on purpose. and like you said, they would get to rebut him on national tv.

Why should the Republicans, NBC, and Politico reschedule the debate? It has been scheduled for months, will cost millions of dollars to reschedule, and inconvenience everyone involved. Is Obama god now that we should bow to his whim?

I damned well hope they wouldn't! The debate has been scheduled for weeks and TODAY obama asks for a joint session at the exact time as the GOP debate? The logical answer to petty bull shit is "NO!"

Oh I see the republican party is more important that the president of the united states.

The American people are, they deserve to hear from everyone scheduled to appear at that debate. By the way, it is not a Republican function, it is sponsored by NBC and politico, and actually costs money for them to rent the hall, get commitments form the candidates, and even pay the union workers who will be doing the backstage work for the debate.

I find it all rather amusing. Obama schedules his address on the same night as the Republican debate, which is a nice piece of political maneuvering but Boehner does him one better by informing the President that night doesn't work and it's going to have to be the next night, which happens to be the opening game of the NFL season.
