Also, markings on streets are used to provide important instructions to drivers. Adding too much noise, in the form of paintings on the street surface that do not contain such important information, can only dilute the ability of drivers to see, understand, and respond to important markings.

For these reasons, it absolutely ought to be illegal to paint markings on the street other than those pertaining to legitimate traffic control.
