The problem is the average productive, law-abiding citizen is far too intimidated by our authoritarian law-enforcement establishment to forcibly resist the actions of the lawless. If you use a weapon against an oppressive bottom-feeder you probably will be arrested and will need to defend your actions in criminal court, then in civil court where you could very well be sued.

The ruling class in our Nation does not like armed citizens. Nor is it fond of those who are prepared to violently resist oppression.

A point of clarification. In The Time Machine, the Morlocks provided everything the Eloi, who did not work, needed to survive. The Eloi were little more than cattle, hardly intellectually advanced..

In the traditional manner of slavery -- which has a curious historical destiny.

The point you've apparently missed is how the Eloi eventually became a passive source of nourishment (cattle) for the barbaric Morlocks, whom they dominated for ages.

When a given culture achieves greatness and unchallenged dominance it has no further need to labor or to experience brutal hardship of any kind. The ironic consequence of this is the spoiled recipients of such privilege become victims of their own success by eventually devolving into soft, weak, passive, unmotivated and, therefore, vulnerable to the aggression of cultures they once subjected to the kind of labor and hardship which strengthens and invigorates those who survive it.

We see that happening today in America.
