It's giving you the 'stink eye'.I might have posted this already.
I rescued this hummer from the net around my dwarf cherry tree and recognized that it was in this state of shock, called "torpor", so I placed it on the stone wall, out of the reach of the dog, to give it a chance to recover.
Meanwhile I went and got my camera, hoping to get this photo. She recovered and flew away just a few seconds after I got this photo.
I have since learned that many birds do this when they get stressed out, like when they fly into the window. If you leave the bird in a safe place, it will recover and fly away.View attachment 1061565

We get a lot of species in summer but in winter we're pretty much down to starlings, sparrows and the occasional jay. I miss the finches and, surprisingly, the grackles. Of course, the raptors don't come around at all except to grab lunch with wings. I hate seeing them gobbling down a finch.

I don't see any grosbeaks here. I miss them. We had some in WA.
.

I don't mind feeding the occasional squirrel who braves my golden doodle.

.You'd be in torpor too if you flew your poor wittle face right smack dab into a bay window going 60 mph!
Open those damned windows!

I've started putting those UV reflecting decals on the slider that birds can see but us just barely. I'll let you know how they work.
