On this day in 1960 the greatest home run that ever was hit happened in Forbes Field in Pittsburgh in the 9th inning of game 7 of the world series. The heavily favored NY Yankees went home as losers.

Thats impressive to celebrate that 64 years later. Maybe the Leafs should do the same for their 1967 Cup. Its a way to remember past heroes

Maz had perhaps the best HOF induction speech ever.

Bobby Thompson's 1951 homer in the 9th to clinch the pennant for the Giants against the Dodgers trumps Mazeroski but you take what you can get in Pittsburgh.

Not even close. We`re talking about game 7 and a home run in the bottom 9th to beat the heavily favored Yankees, but only a fool would belittle Pittsburgh`s 5 World Series and 6 Super Bowl wins. Thompson's HR wouldn`t have been such a big deal if it wasn`t the Yankees.

Sadly neither team is around today and neither is the field but it was the ultimate match between the Giants and the Dodgers for the National League pennant in 1951.

Unknowledgeable people were saying that he`s in the Hall of Fame because of 1 home run, ignoring the fact that he won 8 gold gloves. His 1,706 career double plays remain the most for any second baseman. One of the roads that lead to PNC Park is named Mazeroski Way.
