Many millennia ago Egypt was at the height of its dynastic power—a true superpower of the ancient world. So long as there's no path to citizenship for ANYONE who came here illegally, and we limit the numbers of people from each country and religion (islam). I'm fine with chain immigration too, so long as people are not eligible for food and housing assistance. The asylum thing is a Gordian knot. But Russian Christians misused it too.

There are no "migrant workers" in the USA and haven't been for decades. There are illegal immigrants, legal immigrants and workers with H1B visas. Illegal immigrants take far more from the system than they pay in. They get free medical care, their children get all the welfare benefits including those that benefit the illegal alien parents like Section Eight free or very low cost housing and whatever they call food stamps now. Even the illegals that work under stolen IDs pay little taxes because their income is so low.
