The only 'shocker' here is Biden's WH admitting it.

'The Biden administration quietly updated a federal database showing how many unused oil and gas drilling permits it has approved.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) revised the current number of approved applications for permits to drill (APD) — which oil and gas companies are required to file once they identify a deposit on a lease that can be tapped.'

I guess the more accurate way to say it is not to admitting to lying but rather that they 'UN-cooked the books'.

Now, the oil industry is sitting on a remarkable 9,173 approved, but unused, federal lands drilling permits. To obtain a drilling permit, a company must pay a fee of more than $10,000 and use it within two years (with one two year extension possible).

OF course that was a year ago. Funny how time moves along and unused permits fade into History.....

So oil companies only have 7,000 unused permits?

FACTS something YOU don't deal with!
Now what was YOUR personal, knowledge that is so much more informed than these people who GET paid for their work?

According to the IPAA, some of these leases are going through a “complex regulatory process or are held up in litigation.” Western Energy Alliance, which represents hundreds of companies involved in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas, says on its website that it is defending more than 2,200 leases in court, most of which cannot be developed while the cases are ongoing.
Companies often need to have separate permits secured for multiple well sites before they can bring in an oil rig, the IPAA says. But just because the government approves the permits doesn’t guarantee the well will produce oil and gas, as some never do. This means approved permits may go unused

Of course it's a lie. Everything they say is a lie or a half truth or partial context.

Biden talks about how awesome his employment ratings are without mentioning it was all people going back to work after COVID.

He talks about how great the economy is doing by talking about how much people are spending but the reason they are spending more is because of inflation.

He talks about how fantastic core goods sales are but he isn't talking about aggregate core goods sales.

He talks about how strong our dollar is but doesn't mention the inverted yield curve and that when bond sales are up it really means people are selling them.

I have never, ever in my life seen or heard of a president and an administration lie as much as this one. Nothing they say is the truth, not a damn thing.

Well you didn't comment about the TRUTH that there were NOT 9,000 leases and by the way you evidently are ignorant of how the Biden administration has revised DOWNward that "9,000"!

Biden admin quietly admits White House's 9,000 unused oil permits talking point is wrong

The Biden administration quietly updated a federal database that shows how many unused oil and gas drilling permits that it has approved, reducing the number by more than 2,000.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) revised the current number of approved applications for permits to drill (APD) — which oil and gas companies are required to file once they identify a deposit on a lease that can be tapped — down from an estimated 9,000 to less than 6,700. The BLM, a subagency of the Department of the Interior (DOI), blamed the revision on a Trump-era technical change that it hadn't properly accounted for.
The change suggests that President Joe Biden and administration officials had overstated the extent to which oil and gas companies have neglected producing on approved permits amid the global energy crisis last year.
