Biden announced the next two US Aircraft Carriers will be named after Bill Clinton and W. Bush. Many fighting ships ships have nicknames and those names in honor of former presidents are no exception. The Dwight D. Eisenhower is known as "Ike", The Ronald Reagan as "The Gipper" and the Theodore Roosevelt as "The Big Stick".

Give the USS William J Clinton and USS George W Bush their nicknames...

Well, given that they are both pushing 80, they'll probably both be dead by the time they put to sea.

My problem with naming aircraft carriers after these guys is that they weren't particularly good presidents.

Of course, I feel the same way about naming a carrier after Jerry Ford (who wasn't even elected!) but I can see the reasoning in that because Ford served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier.

This whole thing kind of started when they named the third Midway class carrier after FDR, right after he died. But they were relatively restrained until they named the last Kitty Hawk carrier after JFK right after he died.

Naming carriers after Washington, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt makes sense, they were great presidents.

But Jerry Ford and Bill Clinton? Come on, man.
