Biden started off his speech reciting the same Amtrak lies that have already been debunked.... Fact-Checkers are going to have a ball with this speech...

Biden just repeated his lie that his $5.5 Trillion Deficit Bomb, that costs 'zero', is a TAX CUT...it does NOT add to the DEFICIT!

:shok:

I don't feel the joy of Amtrak at all.

Its just as far to the Amtrak Station from here in Alliance , Ohio as it is to the big international airport in Pittsburgh.

But Amtrak only offers 2 trains a day, one eastbound and one westbound, both in the wee hours of the morning. You have to wait outside and there are no restaurants in the station at all.

OTOH, Pittsburgh International Airport offers numerous restaurants, indoor waiting areas, restrooms, etc.

Not to mention the fact they offer scores of planes every day going to many locations.

Much more going for it.

Amtrak is a loser proposition.

Biden declared he has the money to create hi-speed rail in the US, in NJ, up and down east coast.....Umm, NOT.

"America lags far behind Europe and Asia in high-speed rail development – only 33.9 miles (54.6km) of the current U.S. passenger rail network is capable of supporting train speeds in excess of 150mph. Secretary Buttigieg is not the first American official to advocate for investment in high-speed passenger rail service."

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s proposal to make the United States a “world leader” in high‐speed rail would add more than $4 trillion to the federal debt for construction of new rail lines plus tens of billions of dollars of annual deficit spending to subsidize operating costs. In exchange, such a high‐speed rail network is likely to carry less than 2 percent of the nation’s passenger travel and no freight.

The main disadvantage of high‐speed trains, other than their slow speeds compared with air travel, is that they require a huge amount of infrastructure that must be built and maintained to extremely precise standards. Since the United States is struggling to maintain the infrastructure it already has—particularly its urban rail transit systems and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, which together have more than $200 billion in maintenance backlogs—it makes no sense to build more infrastructure that the nation won’t be able to afford to maintain.i

It's all a financial SCAM, much like Barry's promise of 'shovel ready jobs'. It's all BS, and Biden and Democrats won't tell the American people the above.

Sorry to break it to you, but AOC declared a while back that we are going to have Hi-Speed Rail to replace airplanes / airlines.... Only wealthy Oligarchs, like Kerry, will be able to fly....

Amtrak has been a losing proposition since it was first started. Wonder how many millions of our tax dollars have kept it running??

Government spending raises the cost of everything....I paid nearly $5 a gal over the weekend...that has to really hurt the working people of America...its been tough enough due to the China virus...now China Joe is the new deadly variant.....
Call write or go to your senator and house rep and tell them no more spending...they are killing us...literally....

How did California's attempt to build Hi-Speed Rail work out?

Anyone taking the promise of high-speed rail seriously should consider California's disastrous attempt to build a bullet train in recent years—the project is unfinished and over budget, and one of its key political backers has turned against it.

Building high-speed rail requires bulldozing neighborhoods and disrupting communities, and would be a drain on a state's finances if completed. In 2009, President Barack Obama proposed building 8,600 miles of high-speed rail and received $10.1 billion from Congress toward that goal. The money went to upgrading Amtrak instead.

When funding for the initial part of the California High-Speed Rail line was voted on in 2008, it was supposed to link Los Angeles with San Francisco for about $33 billion and take about a decade to complete. As the years dragged on, the cost ballooned to $100 billion at one point and the project had to be scaled back significantly to a shorter section between Merced and Bakersfield in California's Central Valley.

The cost of the project went up like a nuke cloud - it expanded / ballooned up because of government, construction, and Union (which Biden bragged on today) corruption and the projected was eventually scrapped...

But the Green New Deal nightmare wants to resurrect the idea of 'Hi-Speed Rail in the US.
...Don't forget: only 33.9 miles (54.6km) of the current U.S. passenger rail network is capable of supporting train speeds in excess of 150mph.
