Biden administration unveils ‘major step’ towards massive new round of student loan handouts

No, they work within the existing framework of current legislation which was passed fifteen years ago. The SC said they could not use an existing law for social upheaval such as the pandemic as a reason for remedy.
Link to the legislation that allows transfer of student drbt to taxpayers without approval of congress.

You should have read the code section you posted. You missed the part about public service employment".
And you missed where loans that have been paid on over 120 payments were forgiven

Irrelevant. Mass transfer of student loan debt is not allowed per the law you posted and per the USSC.

I am sure you don't want it to be
Im sure you’re embarrassed because you never bothered to read what you cut and pasted and didn’t know that debt transfer applied to public sector employees.

Anyone seen any steps to reel in egregious loans? Put some parameters, limits, or criteria on student loan assumptions? Why are students still able to pull out $300k in loans to attend out of state private school and study a field for which there is little to no demand in the job market?

Why isn’t the government scaling back and putting students towards a much more affordable plan for them and the taxpayer:

  • Two years local community college
  • Two years in-state public university
  • Study in a field for which there is demand.

As a taxpayer, I’d rather be assisting students that are responsible in taking out loans. Why should taxpayers who are responsible with their loans be on the hook because some brat and their parebts felt entitled to go to an expensive private school out of state and concentrate in a bullshit major?

You want the government to be your mommy and daddy and make decisions for you. Then you want everyone else to pay for those poor decisions.

I think we could go down the path of free or near free college BUT it’s not going be where students and/or their parents get to choose a useless major at a private, elite college in another time zone - NO. Free college will be chosen among a field for which there is demand in the job market, offered at local community and state universities, and possibly require a five year military or public servant commitment.

congress approved the law in 2007, I am surprised you have never heard of it, but you probably didn't have college debt.

I thought everyone knew about that.

"Public health means those engaged in the following occupations (as those terms are defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics): physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses in a clinical setting, health care practitioners, health care support, counselors, social workers, and other community and social service specialists."

Nobody has an issue with that loan program .

Why is xiden and harris not wanting to follow it?

I set up a lot of rural medical practices in the 1980-90s with public health doctors.

Actually that law was passed in 2007

Nope.. The government helped pay for their medical education... They worked off the debt by practicing in an underserved area ..

Ok…nobody has a problem with that

That doesn’t answer his question. Weird how you don’t understand that

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is a federal program that helps connect primary care clinicians with underserved communities.

The NHSC's programs aim to increase access to quality healthcare in areas with health professional shortages, and to incentivize clinicians to work in these areas.

The NHSC offers programs such as scholarships and loan repayment to support over 18,000 primary care providers, including medical, dental, and behavioral health professionals.

For example, the NHSC Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students pursuing degrees or training programs for primary care health professions. In exchange, scholars commit to providing primary care services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).

The NHSC also offers loan repayment programs to help students pay for school loans in exchange for serving in a community of need.
