Accountability, is part of unification and healing. Lawlessness is not. Trump inciting his followers in to an insurrection attempt at the Capitol, while a joint session in Congress was occurring, with the vice president also at this constitutional joint session to count the certified electoral college votes, disqualifies TRUMP from ever holding a public service office again....
The constitution, states two purposes with two separate votes, that an impeachment is a way to remove a person from elected office, which takes two thirds voting yes, and the other purpose and vote, which only takes a majority vote, is to prevent the office holder, from ever holding an office again.
The 14th Amendment also states anyone who causes/incites or participates in an insurrection against the U.S. Government shall never hold a public office...and the only means to do such fairly, with some due process for the office holder, is in an impeachment trial or perhaps a criminal trial. Trust me, you want the impeachment trial, over a criminal one...which could result in a long time in prison.
Trump' s Big Lie on the election being stolen from him and he won by a landslide, killed people, and got 50 to 60 MEN IN BLUE beaten, some to a pulp... with flag poles, wood boards, kicking feet, punching fists, bear spray, etc...

The Constitution specifically requires a 2/3 majority to convict a president and remove them from office. but it also allows the Senate to disqualify a pass or present president from holding federal office in the future. This does not specify whether or not it requires a two-thirds majority or a simple majority
So the Senate could technically prohibit Trump from running for future office without actually convicting him. It would depend on whether or not federal courts and the supreme Court would uphold such a judgment.
They could technically judge that he is ineligible for federal office by a simple majority but then have the ruling overturned by a federal appeals court or the supreme Court who could determine that the 2/3 majority applies to both removal from office and disqualification from holding a future office.
I believe that the Democrats don't really trust McConnell and the other Republicans to actually convict Trump. I believed they will use their simple majority to disqualify Trump and hope that federal courts and the supreme Court agree that a simple majority is needed, and not a 2/3 majority in order to disqualify.

Sounds about right. I thought his message was to unify the country. Yet on his first day.
