Bicycle riders over 18 must carry photo ID

bike riders who ride on public streets and roadways should have to

be licensed and taxed yearly and have insurance as well
Why?
Roads need to be paved and kept up, no? If you use it you need to chip in to those expenses. Licensing too for being well versed in traffic rules ... not like this idiot below, look

The taxes I pay for my car to use the road should be more than enough. It would be dumb to tax people again for the same thing. I thought you were a conservative that wanted small government?

everyone who uses the road should pay the road tax
Thats fine but its dumb to pay twice.

I have one working vehicle 5.2 liter and a get around vehicle 1.9 liter. I use them accordingly to save on gas and less pollution. I pay taxes after both vehicles.

Any Biker within 3 blocks of designated bike route not on it should be ticketed.
Do you think bike routes are the only places people go when riding their bikes?

When I was stationed in Cecil Field FL, I rode out to Jacksonville Beach (42 miles each way) every Saturday.

I've also ridden a bike from Memphis TN to Jacksonville FL (7 days), from Jacksonville FL to Newport RI (12 days), and from Newport RI to Norfolk VA (5 days). There weren't ANY bike lanes on those roads.

Why? Bicycles don't tear up the road, don't require special skills to ride (unless you're a racer, and that is totally different, and yes, racers have to be licensed with the UCI), and they don't pollute or leak oil.

You sound like you're in support of big government taking more of our money.

they are on the street pay the price or get off it

Are you going to charge the pedestrians walking on the side of the road as well? How much do you think a 5 year old should have to pay for a license? Or, at what age can they start riding?

Your suggestion is crap.

do you really think a five year old should be riding a bike in the street --LOL-really - i think that is a bad idea

why would there charge a pedestrian for walking on the "side" of the road

im talking about bikes using the road

Actually, there are bike lanes around the school next to where I live, so yea, why not let the kids ride there with adult supervision? Me? I was riding country roads all over the place when I was 9.

you said five years old

i think it is a bad idea

Dont care where ya go but if we build for ya by god you better be on em or get a ticket unless you are off to hit your destination.....traffic control .....its for your own good......and bikers obviously dont understand basic safety
You havent built anything for me. I pay my taxes and until you are powerful enough to change the rules, I will ride where I want to.

What if you don't live on the bike route? What? Should you walk your bike to it? Most cities have very limited bike routes that don't go over the entire city.
I did say within 3 blocks read much...Weve built all over MPLS St Paul and they sit there mty while the bikes play in traffic

Funny most incidents I see are dumbass' weaving thru traffic and blowing thru traffic control
I see them idiots all the time..... "share the road" ...my ass... especially when there is a ******* sidewalk on both sides of the street what nobody uses...

According to the laws of most states, if a bicycle is riding on the side of the road, they are allowed a half lane for their travel.

And, I obey the laws, use hand signals and don't weave in and out of traffic. There's no need to do so where I live, the roads aren't that crowded.

So...more taxes and more government regulation. Tell me, did you become a Democrat since dinner? lol

the democrats believe in some paying the taxes for others to get it free

i say everyone pays their fair share

You do realize that many bikers also own cars as well?

I used to do a 32 mile circuit in Sacramento up to Folsom dam back in the day. They had a trail that bikers could use that ran along the American River.

That day is coming ...bikers keep pissing off more and more people every yr......and the insurance too bub.....only matter of time til critical mass is achieved

My city just wasted thousands putting in bike lanes all over town that are seldom used, particularly since Michigan has bad bike weather six months out of each year.

Some bikers are dangerous, as they think they own the road. They appear to have a death wish.

You should have a license to walk and pay more taxes since you are using the sidewalk. Maybe insurance as well. You could trip and fall injuring someone dearly.

You can't go any faster on a sidewalk than around 8 to 12 mph, and that is if there is nobody walking. Your average bike rider is capable of 15 to 25 mph, and those speeds are too dangerous to ride on a sidewalk.
So I have a 35 mph speed limit and I intend to keep it then, you ******* around in your helmet and spandex on the road in front of me with you avg. 20 mph. How does it fair to me to slow down for miles and miles to your speed and losing valuable production/driving time because you don't want to ride your bike on the sidewalk at 12 mph?

Because most people are not dumb enough to do something like taxing bikes more than they are already taxed.
