Bibi and Tiananmen Square

georgephillip, et al,

Interesting observation.

As with everything that guided Israel's national policy, demographics were an overriding factor... unilateral separation doesn't guarantee peace, Arnon Sofer, the so-called 'Arab counter' who helped devise the Gaza separation, remarked in 2004.
(COMMENT)

There is nothing that guarantees peace. Political guarantees are mental aberration.

Separations and quarantines only is a temporary measures that improves the potential to avoid confrontation. Security barriers only provide obstacles to overcome, a physical resistance between belligerent opponents.

Peace is achieved by mentally achieving an agreement that is mutually beneficial.

It is very important to understand who Max Blumenthal is and where he fits in the game. You must also understand that many of the catch phrases Blumenthal uses are exactly the same as those used by people like Diana Buttu, esq; as in the older video P F Tinmore gave to us. He is one of the believers that attempts to suggest that since 1893, the Zionist have had this plan to confine the most number of Palestinians in the smallest possible space. Which is almost the exact same script that Diana Buttu sung from. These people are promoting the adoption of a Palestine that is an Islamic Waqf, and the dismantlement of the Jewish National Home. The "solemn declaration" that the Arab Higher Committee made in 1947, that said: “The only way to establish partition is first to wipe them out – man women and child;" is one way concept - only allowed to be used by the Hostile Arab Palestinian. That is, it is absolutely essential that if the Jewish opponent adopts the same philosophy, it must be demonized.

Having said that, Arnon Sofer is not mad. He adopted the best possible alternative (separation) as a means of preventing a confrontation with an opponent that has made a "solemn declaration" that said: “The only way to establish partition is first to wipe them out – man women and child."

Be cautious of the Max Blumenthal's and the Diana Buttu's. They have an agenda and are consummate wordsmiths.

You're no slouch in the wordsmith category yourself, Rocco.
Sofer, on the other hand, appears to combine a clear political agenda with a far less nuanced vocabulary:

"Sofer spelled out the implications of the withdrawal... 'when 2.5 million people live in a closed off Gaza, it's going to be a human catastrophe. Those people will become even bigger animals than they are today, with the aid of an insane fundamentalist Islam. The pressure at the border will be awful. It's going to be a terrible war. So if we want to remain alive, we have to kill and kill and kill, all day, every day. If we don't kill, we will cease to exist.'"

If you compare the ratio of Jew to Arab in Palestine of 1893 with today's number, would not any rational Arab come to the conclusion his only choice is between resistance and extinction?

Today, there is more at stake than just ground.

You are stuck in the 19th Century. And that was a time when all the Great political minds where still embedded with the idea that the "Ruling Elite" controlled the fate and development of the People. Empires still called all the shots. The idea of "self-determination" was not even in its infancy; but still embryonic with no real critical support behind it. It would take another century before the concept was defined.

The security barrier and quarantine systems in use today (in the Middle East) are the last relics of that period in history. It spawns from the ideas that traverse the Great Wall of China, down through history to the Iron Curtain. The Israeli Security Barriers are the made of the same stuff. Sofer did not invent something new - he wasn't an architect of anything unusual or novel; but merely adapted an old idea to a new problem. Build a wall to keep your enemies out. It is not "apartheid" and it is not a violent solution. It's just a wall; an ancient concept that has been expanded and politicized for phycological and propaganda purposes. And Arnon Sofer is not a skilled or renowned politician; but a trained geographer and environmental scientist. His words are much like those around us; sometimes measured and sometimes emotionally spontaneous.

Don't grasp and attach some special meaning, or conspiratorially assign some grand master plan to his work. He is but a man born the year Izz ad-din al-Qassam died; in the middle of a conflict between the Arab Palestinian and Jewish Immigrants. And his experiences shaped his words; just as your words are shaped by your experiences.

George Kennan wrote the following in the mid-20th century (1948) regarding the US controlling 50% of global resources with only 6% of the world's population:

"We must be very careful when we speak of exercising "leadership" in Asia. We are deceiving ourselves and others when we pretend to have answers to the problems, which agitate many of these Asiatic peoples.

"Furthermore, we have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3 of its population.

"This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships, which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security.

"To do so we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and daydreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives.

"We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world benefaction...

"In the face of this situation we would be better off to dispense now with a number of the concepts which have underlined our thinking with regard to the Far East. We should dispense with the aspiration to 'be liked' or to be regarded as the repository of a high-minded international altruism.

"We should stop putting ourselves in the position of being our brothers' keeper and refrain from offering moral and ideological advice. We should cease to talk about vague — and for the Far East — unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization.

"The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts.

"The less we are hampered by idealistic slogans, the better."

George F. Kennan - Wikiquote

Do you believe those "straight power concepts" are on full display in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan today (Mexico tomorrow)?
