Bernie is realistic: ‘I am not naive’: takes over Health, Education, Labor & Pension Committee, will embrace activist roots but also work across aisle

Heaven help us

Ideas come out from left field, literally. A lot of fury, energy and passion. So far nothing’s come of it

Historically, he’s had a lot to say but hasn’t been able to get much done. And HELP needs to be able to get things done.

He ran twice for president, then pushed an all-Democratic government as far left as it could possibly go,

I disagree.

He'd better not waste this opportunity. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if he does travel and work to build support as needed or just sits on his ass making excuses..

Politicians on both sides have no idea what the term "working across the aisle" actually means. They believe it means picking off a couple of people on the other side to agree with them, which is not really working across the aisle. Working across the aisle actually means compromising, something that both sides are unwilling to do.

because that means one side will get more than the other side.....and depending on what side gets the most, the other side will say they did not compromise...

I liked your post, even though I'm not exactly sure what it meant from your perspective. One of our biggest problems today is the unprecedented extremism on both sides. Both sides seem to think the way to negotiate with the other side is to make extremist demands so that when you "compromise" you will wind up getting 100% of everything you wanted in the first place. But, when both sides are doing the same thing, it is about impossible to actually compromise, so it pretty much never happens. About all we can ever accomplish is in finding areas that we actually more or less agree on, ignoring all of the major issues that each side refuses to compromise on.

Bernie Sanders M.O. is to sit around and bitch, and blame everyone but himself.
This is what he has been doing for 40 years

from my perspective both parties are pretty useless....they are made up of die hards and people who follow them without question.....when we have a congress with a pretty shitty approval rating but these same 20 percenters get re-elected time after time.....because "my congress person is doing their job,yours?...not so much"...with that attitude....what can go wrong?....

OK. I will definitely like that post. However, their seems to be an unwritten implication there that if you just vote for someone else other than the R's and D's then everything will come up rosy. Personally, I think that it is naive to automatically assume. Take Bernie, for one example. All of his followers blindly believed he would represent the little guy, even though he and his wife are close to being one percenters, own two very nice homes, and depend on millions and millions of dollars to run their campaigns from not only regular people but from the DNC and PAC's as well. Basically the same goes for anyone else running. It takes money to win and people are beholden to money and you can't win without lots of financial backing and that includes people who aren't R's and D's.

Bernie may claim he is not naive but we all know he is an idiot.

Pretty much.
Washington D.C is - seriously - almost 100% corrupt. Both sides. Completely corrupt either through corporate/financial reasons, or politically corrupt or both.
The last thing you can expect to get from a single Washington Politician is to do the right thing.

PERIOD.

Democrats elect a socialist. No surprise here. I still wonder if Bernie had any contact with big Sanders fan James Hodgkinson (remember him?) before he opened fire on a republican baseball team.
