Guys like Tim Larkin are just gimmick teachers. There are a bunch of them. Its not as though he wont be able to give you some decent fighting tips, but he isnt training real killers. His students are all beginners who dont know anything. He has never produced a world champion fighter. Credentials matter a lot in martial arts. If he doesnt have any elite students, then how good of a teacher can he really be?

If you want to learn stuff as a hobby, go ahead, there is nothing wrong with that, but a hobbyist instructor is not an authority on fighting. The best martial arts teachers do not spend their time on youtube. They are WAY too busy for that.

Rule of thumb for old timers... forget everything you knew and learned before the year 2000. Virtually all of it is horseshit. That is a tough pill to swallow for most people, but i swallowed it years ago. Tae Kwon Do is a middling tier martial art at best. Thats what i wasted my time with. I had to come to terms with that. Tim Larkin breaks down MMA and compares it to what actually happens in the real world.....he gives several encounter between "chamipion," MMA fighter vs. actual violent criminals......in the one, a champion MMA fighter was sent to prison, beat the crap out of one of the prisoners, then that prisoner came back and beat him into a coma with a waffle press......the first video looks at an MMA guy......

All street fights are the same, two guys start slugging, if one isnt quickly knocked out the fight inevitably ends up on the ground. One guy eventually gets the upper hand on the ground and then he punches the other guy out.

A UFC fighter will dominate any street fighter with ease. Being tough isnt going to cut it against a highly skilled professional fighter in his prime.

You have been told now by two experts in the martial arts that MMA and UFC is not the same as real fights nor is it like real combat. Yet, you accept his and not mine. So, the problem is you. I said that sparring, MMA and UFC is not the same as a fight nor combat. However, there are techniques in many of the arts as well as what is used in MMA and UFC that can be used in street fights and combat. And yes, blind folding helps in both if you are proficient with it. If you are jumped at night time or in a dark place, blind folding can be very helpful. And, I'm not talking about what they show in Bloodsport. My training is simple and works over time.
