Banning People for NOT Swearing???

It would be great if someone just announced something like: "Dear Members, we are opening this site to more young people hoping it'll boost membership, etc., so we want you to make it more family-friending by watching the adult language from now on."

That I could understand and relate to, then it would make sense. I am not a good one for following orders blindly. I like to know what I'm doing and why. This is not the military.

I add value here by posting to it and the least I should expect is a simple explanation for all the time I invest here giving the 8,000 bots something juicy to read.

One of our oldest twin daughters told me once after reading some posts on here there's some really dense people posting.

I had to smile

Just pretend you're in Sunday school and you should be ok lol

When I was in sunday school, we were teaching each other how to take the Great Lakes Butter box and cut and fold it so it looked like Pocahontas was showing her boobies.

It has been a rough life, Sass, I started getting served liquor in restaurants when I was 15 and started smoking cigarettes in school when I was 16.

Back then, a pack of smokes was 35¢

I've never smoked and rarely drink alcohol. A little wine now and again.

Life can be hard for sure. I'm thankful I've been blessed with a decent one

You're not missing much. Cigarettes are really crappy tobacco. Pipes and cigars are far better, but pipes are complex and there is a steep learning curve and cigars while tasting great, smell really bad to others when they aren't smoking them and are just too damned expensive. I have a great recipe for how to take three affordable wines and combine them to make a wine comparable to a $400 Cabernet Sauvignon.

My husband smokes cigars. Not in the house though. Nope nope and nope.

He keeps saying he's going to quit, for like the last decade

I'm reading this post of yours, talking about "boobs" in Sunday School to none other than SassyIrishLass (the images, the mental images!) - in a thread you started about forbidden wizard swears. . . and I'm thinking "man I ******* love this place, sometimes!"

I used to smoke them out on the patio in the summer, but a good cigar like a Padron Anniversary Series is too good and expensive to not smoke in comfort. Some cigars take a couple hours to smoke.

Also, you can buy air purifiers which pull smoke from the air and electrostatically capture it inside the house.

Get your hubby a box of these for Christmas and you'll have a friend for life. :SMILEW~130:

He's pretty good at keeping it out of the house. He golfs and that is where he does that nasty habit that and the garage in the winter while he's tinkering with his old car. I'm still waiting on that project to bear fruit

Here is a good, cheap cigar for around the house working on cars and stuff. Actually made by Tabacalara from cuttings left from making La Aurora cigars, these little things are fantastic for the price. They come both flavored and unflavored. All are good.

Tinkering on old cars never bears fruit, just busted knuckles.

It's a 1974 Trans Am. He's making headway but it's been awhile. He enjoys it so it's all good with me. I do like when our youngest daughter, she's six, helps him. It's good to see them bond. Probably annoys him but maybe not

I have engine parts to fit its motor. Made for a Pontiac 400 ci, race car parts to soup it up that came off an old race car owned by the Allison Brothers.

Color me confused.

First of all, the stated reason for banning "cuss" words is IMO, a misguided one, because it is not the WORDS that lead various threads down the crooked path, but the PEOPLE. Forcing people to use nice words won't change the direction or content of anything, but then, I just wrote a textbook on psychology, so what would I know?

OK, but how do you know a word is banned? Without some list or guide, apparently you won't know until you hit POST and a word comes up ****** instead, but this is where I get confused; I just scanned the current rules and it says this:

Foul language (profanity) will not be permitted on the boards. The site is programmed to censor such language (with these, ******) automatically. Any attempt to bypass the filter by deliberately misspelling banned words or using special characters (such as !, @, $, or *) will result in a warning and a note. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in temporary bans, if not permanent, depending on the severity.

When I joined this forum, I spoke respectfully, but got hammered to death with insults and vulgarity. The viewpoint by mods then was calling people names was just fine so long as you contributed to the topic. I finally began cussing back (I'm a great cusser) just to hold my own with many posters. This was a failure of moderation.

But often especially in the last couple of years, I would try to temper my language by misspelling words or adding ASCII characters so people knew what I meant without actually saying it, like saying no farking way, get the f@%k outta here. Mind you, no swearword was used.

But if I am to read your rule above (blue lettering) it is now a WORSE CRIME NOT TO SWEAR than it is to just keep swearing and let the system auto bleep it out! Is that true?

Who determines that a misspelled word or a non-swear word was a "deliberate attempt to bypass a filter?" If it isn't a swear word, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

If I make up words or use characters to AVOID SWEARING, instead of being rewarded for clean language, do you really intend to declare them "an attempt to bypass the filter" and ban people for NOT swearing? I just need to hear from someone in an official capacity which is better, to jumble words to avoid actually saying a no-no, or to continue saying bad words and letting the system completely bleep it out?

You folks really need to be clear about this ambiguity for yet another half-baked crazy idea which will again fail to effect any positive change whatsoever (but to further drop donations and membership farther still), but every time this topic comes up, the thread is always closed before anyone can ask the right questions or get the needed clarification.

So which is it? Do you folks really want people to keep cussing so the system can ****** it out instead of just making up words which are no bad word at all?

Because the language of your rules states that it is a BANNABLE OFFENSE now to make up unoffensive words to AVOID swearing.

And that fails to even cover ACTUAL SWEARING and swearwords which are not on the ban-list? So it is OK to cuss and swear if the words are not banned by the programming? Because I've already seen a LOT of dirty words which folks can still say. So apparently according to the brilliantly worded rule above, it is now a worse offense NOT to swear by deliberately altering words to non-swear words than it is to ACTUALLY CUSS words that don't get blanked out?

You people really have opened a deep can of worms.
Well, tbh, including myself, profanity needs cleaned up and reduced. I'm taking it a step further by compiling a list to replace derogatory words such as retard with, "You have Intellectual Difficulty".

It'll take a bit of training and discipline, but I'll get there.

I'll ask him. I have zero clue about cars or motors. Supposedly this one has some rare motor or something. He found it like 3 years ago, first time I saw it I was like why? Lol But he's making headway. Oh wait it has SD something. Something to do with the motor or so he says

This site would hate his language when he's working on it lol

Fastest car/ highest speed of any car I've ridden in,

Manager of a place I worked has a trans am with a twin turbocharged 400 cui engine.

He put a five dollar bill on the dashboard and said I could have it if I could grab it on takeoff.... and I did grab it.

He got so mad, he just kept it floored and I remember seeing the speedometer bouncing off the max peg like 4 times. .

This one is a lot cleaner than the one I rode in.

Maybe my hubby doesn't need that. I asked him, it's a 455 SD. Absolutely no idea what that means but he's proud of it along with his friends
