My dad passed away 12 years ago from mesothelioma, which it has been determined he contracted from the asbestos used in the ship's hulls while serving in the Navy during the Korean War. He didn't die in Korea fighting Koreans, but he did die as a result of that war. I agree with you...Governor Brewer definitely didn't phrase it right, but what he was doing was serving his country as a factory worker that provided military staples during WW2.

It's similar to families of 9/11 rescue workers who later died due to the effects of the toxic fumes saying that 9/11 killed their loved ones. Literally accurate, but leaving out a lot of details due to the delayed impact.

I'm more concerned about people accusing her of being a Nazi in the first place because she is enforcing a law which basically says that it's a crime to violate a federal law that already exists. Attacking her for an overly emotive reaction is misplaced outrage.

The woman was definitely glossing over reality by leaving out details. The accepted meaning of "He died fighting the Nazis" in our current usage of the English language means, 'he died from combat related causes during the war'.

It's extremely easy to be more accurate, and truthful, since she is a native English speaker. She could have said 'My father died as the result of working in a factory during WW2. He suffered asbestos related lung disease and died a painful death because of his work for the war effort. To then to be characterized as a Nazi is hurtful to me, because my family abhorred Hitler and his beliefs"

Fortunately for her, she didn't say "died fighting the Nazis", and expecting us to defend a deliberate misquote is going to leave you waiting a long time.
