I'm just going to address the posted topic. Many have said that mankind would be better off if the Judaic religions, especially Islam, were scrapped entirely. I recall standup comic Lewis Black (a Jewish individual), saying, "before the New Testament, God was a dick.
I think if there ever could just be one religion, I would prefer it to be Buddhism. Even though technically, it is really a philosophy, they lump it in with religion and its pretty peaceful. My significant other is Buddhist and is a great person.

As for suffering, yes, it's a mutual tenant of religion but not all religions address it the same. Bottom line... life isn't fair, expect to suffer. The level of your suffering is a function of how you make sacrifices. Those with the right frame of mind will suffer less.
