First, it is atheists who believe that they can travel backward in time. From what I read of Stephen Hawking articles and A Brief History of Time and A Briefer History of Time, it is possible because of parallel universes from the multiverse concept. Hawking always talked about the multiverse, so you probably have to believe it first. Traveling forward in time can be done by using Einstein special theory of relativity.
