This is sad. Lovely kids. The primary motive appears to be issues over a parking spot.

But police are wondering if his anti faith stance has played into the situation.

Are you saying that we should feel pity for the Al Qaeda or ISIS/ISIL members we kill any more than we should for rapists or serial killers?

If you ask why are people (religious or atheist) war hawks. It comes down to their interactions with other people, probably neither person has met a practicing Muslim and only has a superficial view of Christianity.
