If ICE is withdrawn from Minnesota, it will encourage other states to behave as Minnesota has, and destroy the whole deportation plan, which was an important issue to voters who voted for Trump. The problems in Minnesota can be solved before midterms without alienating ICE supporters, but not by Noem.

Noem lost sight of the fact that the mission in Minnesota was not to win a debate with the Democrats who were attacking ICE, but to arrest illegals, and if Noem had done what every police department would have done if an officer killed a civilian, pledge a thorough investigation and put the officer on modified assignment until the investigation was over, it would have gone a long way to containing the response to the killing.

It is not too late to save the mission in Minnesota. The new face ICE is Tom Homan, and he can do what Noem should have done and also begin teaching those who support deportation but have been disturbed by the violence and seeming chaos why the deportation of all illegals is necessary to secure our borders.

Thee are basically two operations going on in Minnesota, arresting and detaining illegals who have been marked for expedited removal and dealing with rioters who are trying to impede their work dealing with illegals. ICE appears to be doing a very professional job at arresting and detaining illegals, but are doing less well dealing with the constant harassment for the rioters, largely because Noem's charge ahead and answer no questions style has provoked more attacks on the agents.

ICE is not just wandering around Minnesota looking for illegals, the agents have warrants for particular illegals who have been marked for expedited removal, so anywhere ICE agents stop and organize they are setting up an operations to arrest a particular illegal, and every time they do, the rioters move in and tried to impede their operation. While the rioters cam claim some success in the PR war they are raging, I don't think they have been able to slow down ICE's real work in arresting and detaining illegals.

In normal cities and states, local police come in and do crowd control, so ICE agents can do their jobs. Same as if equally irrational protesters showed up to harass firefighters, or electrical workers restoring power after a storm.

The fact that the governments of Minnesota are not only failing to provide that support, but openly opposing federal officers and encouraging their citizens to insurrect, is exactly the situation that the Insurrection Act provides the executive with powers to deal with.

I don't see how they could not be slowed down at least to some extent. I know we are only seeing the most dramatic video bytes, but what we see shows ICE wrestling with, spraying, and arguing with these noisy Karens throwing tantrums.

Maybe you're right, and I hope you are, that this is an insignificant fraction of the ICE Agents' time. If you look at the country overall, I'm sure you are right.

But in Minneapolis, I think they are significantly hindered, so if Homan cannot bring calm through deal-making, time to send in the troops. The president is not limited to using Minnesota National Guard, either. He can send in "such of the armed forces as he considers necessary."
