Assad in Syria is not the bad guy

While you will probably shout into my face about how bullshit is coming out of my mouth faster than a commercial pressure washer, why don't we try to understand the situation and why there IS conflict.

We'll start with Islam and the differences within it. There is a Suni side (which is the majority) and the Shite. Both sides combat with eachother through terrorism and the unrest continues through violence in the middle east today.

Syria is mostly a Shite run nation and the sunis are the rebels, which are creating the unrest.
Syria is not terrorizing them or anything, the sunis are the ones who are rebeling and assad is defending the nation from them.

The solution would to be to take the sunis and put them in a suni nation. Suni and shite mix like oil and water.

Assad is simply combating the rebels who are resorting to terrorism in the nation, which is leading to conflict. (this happened in egypt).

Is Assad looking like the bad guy now?

At the end of the day it is just islam being islam and while they are doing it to each other we should sit back and enjoy the show. Only when they start to use illegal weapons and use children as weapons should we step in and bring a halt to the fights. The more we become involved the more we will become targets for Islamic aggression and the more of our citizens will be killed. We should close our doors to refugees coming from Syria as all we do otherwise is import the war to our nations, as we saw with the break up of Yugoslavia. Show an almost complete indifference to the muslims internal squabbles and they will soon wipe each other out. With Saudi start to find other sources of fuel so that eventually they are beggared into submission and are no longer a world power. Once M.E oil stops flowing then the balance of power will change back to the west.

The US has allowed 37,000 Syrian refugees to immigrate to the US since 2012.

Saudi Arabia will be selling more oil to China .. That has already begun. Iraq and Iran will do likewise.

And the Syrians will start fighting amongst themselves in the US and many innocent Americans will be injured. I see it all the time when suuni and shia meet in England, specially at Ramadan and eid

Whatever happened to the Syrian Christians?

Syria used to be a Christian nation.

How's that working out for them now?

The muslims did an islam on them and ran them out of town, thus fulfilling the command in the Koran to have no other religion but islam.

Damascus had a Jewish population of 10,000 in 70 BC.

By 300 AD it had a sizable Christian population.

I doubt it.. In most places Shia and Sunni get along. Sunnis don't understand Ashoura and in may places the bloody self flagellation is against the law.

That's actually pretty naive. In most every location where sunni and shia interact, it is disasterous.

Where have you lived in the Middle East? My experience says differently.

The problem in Syria is the government is full of Alawite privilege and corruption.

President Obama lost a golden opportunity early on to solve the Syrian conflict and help the people inch towards democracy.

The original Syrian people to take up arms against Assad were just average citizens who formed the FSA (Free Syrian Army). Which was a rag tag militia composed mainly of secular syrians seeking to fundamentally change the country into a democratic run nation.

Early on the FSA begged the U.S. government for weapons to oust the embattled Assad and his brutal army but it fell on deaf ears.

Then there was a glimmer of hope when Pres. Obama made his speech about 'drawing a line in the sand' if Assad used chemical weapons on his citizens. Which would entail the U.S./UN bombing chemical stock piles and army bases. But most important to the FSA would be the creation of a 'No Fly Zone' because they have no defense against Assad's air force. And the Assad air force has been randomly destroying cities and towns with zero regard for innocent Syrian citizens.

Unfortunately, Pres. Obama backtracked on his 'line in the sand' stance when Assad used chemical weapons on his people. And then totally caved in to Putin with his lame chemical weapons solution. Which made the U.S. look pathetic to the rest of the world. And left the already weakened FSA to fend for themselves without any help from the western nations.

Seeing that the West had no backbone the Iranians started pouring money/weapons/soldiers into the Syrian conflict to support Assad.

Saudi Arabia and the rich Gulf countries had been sitting on the sidelines of the Syrian conflict at the request of the U.S. government. And threatened any of their citizens with prison if they went to fight jihad in Syria.

But when Pres. Obama folded like a card table to Putin's demands and the Iranians entered the fray. The Gulf nations reversed their stance and started pouring money into Syria to help the people fight Assad. Plus, they now allowed their citizens to join the jihad in Syria.

The grass roots secular FSA militia was quickly pushed aside by the flow of well financed jihadists from around the world. And well trained Islamic groups patterned after Al Qaeda have risen to the forefront of the insurrection against Assad.

On the other side, Russia has become emboldened because of the lack of will power of America and the West. And has joined Iran in bolstering the Assad regime with weapons and logistical support.

Now the U.S. faces a dilemma of it's own making. (by not helping the secular FSA in the beginning)

#1) Support the anti-Assad rebels; which today means backing radical jihadists.

#2) Do nothing; and Iran will control Syria and eventually Lebanon, plus be right on Israel's northern border.

Excellent post sunni-------I am amazed. However I do not agree that
the USA should have developed the 'secular' FSA -----whom do you imagine
you are kidding------there was no keeping the jihado-dogs out of the Fray----
aiding the FSA would have been just as idiotic as was the USA aid provided to
the jihado-dogs TALIBAN. In all cases the dogs will arrived to exploit----
it is what dogs do. Osama is a prime example of a dog who sniffed around ---
and he found afghanistan and----then pakistan-----his fellow dogs

Your claimed experience is contrary to the entirety of Islamist history. The shia are considered to be a heretical sect (as are Ahmddiyya) by the majority sunni.

The problem in Syria is the same problem in Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, Iran, Egypt, Yemen, etc.

Sunni and shia despise each other and those hatreds date back to ancient islamist times and tales.

oh gee----and I thought he had grown a brain

There was a Sunni medieval uprising against the secular legislation in Syria. Retarded Islamists wanted to impose their view and laws on the people.

Syrian security forces satisfy a Sunni´s religious demand for lowliness and abasement.

Sunni and shia despise each other and those hatreds date back to ancient islamist times and tales.

99% of Yemenis are Muslims, with 50% belonging to the Shafi'i order of Sunni Islam and 50% adhering to the Zaydi sect of Shi'a Islam.

There are also approximately 3,000 Christians, 1,500 Jews and a tiny minority of Hindus.

The majority of Muslims in Egypt are Sunni .. a large group are Sufis.

Pakistan has a Sunni majority of about 75% with the remainder being Shia and smattering of other faiths.

Libya has a Senussi majority.. King Idris was descended from the Senussi founder.
