They didn't mistrust the common man. But they did understand that democracy, or the democratic rule that majority wins, historically did not work. The founding fathers did not want a new nation that lived by "Mob Rules" mentality and electing demigods. That is why our country is shaped the way it is, with representation, electoral college, senate and congress, along with checks and balances. The founding fathers saw the "common man's" majority participation in politics to be at the local and state level.You don’t understand history
Our founders mistrusted the common man
There was no “middle class”
And, yes, there was a middle class. And what we can learn from the wealth of the founding fathers, is many of them WORKED for it. They were educated, ambitious, entrepreneurs, that understood the value in being a productive citizen. Along with that a few founding fathers, didn't fair too well either in finances and struggled or flopped all together after the union.
Let's not paint with such broad brushes and generalities.
