Love 'em. But..they take forever to steam. So..I googled and tried the microwave after reading that it only takes 10 minutes for a nice artichoke to be ready to chow on.
1 medium artichoke.
Cut top off about an inch or so down.
Put leaf side DOWN in microwaveable container, butt UP.
Add about half an inch of water with a squirt of lemon. Salt if desired.
Cover firmly with saran wrap.
Nuke 10 minutes.
Insert fork in butt. If soft and bottom leaves pull of easily, its done.

And it was. I enjoyed every scrape of my teeth on those leaves and scarfed down the heart.

Which begs the question...who the HELL discovered how to eat an artichoke..that you can only scrape the meat off the leaves, then remove the fuzz and eat the heart? Did some roman experiment or something???

Yeah, how did they know to eat artichokes and not thistle? (they are related)

I have some in my garden, love em that much

Try Them Both On A Grill
If You Haven't Already

The Asparagus You Dip In Olive Oil And Garlic Marinade
Use A Grill Pan So They Don't Fall Thru The Grating
You'll Never Again Want Them Any Other Way

Artichokes:
Boil Them About 15min
(I Might Try Nuken' 'Em...)
Halve & Clean Out The Hair
Brush Inside And Out With Garlic Butter/Olive Oil
Grill Turning Frequently 5-10min

I'll Be Grilling Artichokes For The 4th...

It breaks my heart to watch someone on TV throw away the leaves.
We steam the artichokes then remove each leaf and dip it in a clarified butter/roasted garlic dip then scrape off the tasty morsel at the inner portion of the leak with our teeth. As you get closer to the 'choke' the tasty morsels get larger.
Pure heaven with a big bowl of steamed Dungeness crab pieces, chunks of fresh baguette and lots of chilled not cold Pinot Grigio white wine.
This is when the hot wet hand towels and plastic table cloth come into service.

I Didn't Know There Was Any Other Way To Officially Eat Them

You Wanna Know What Really Out-Rages Me ??
How People Will Come To My Table
Un-Willing To Try Eating Different Ways Or Things
They Think This Is A Buffet Or Fast Food Joint
Where They Pick And Choose From My Menu ??
Makes Me Think They're Only Worth Nuggets And Frozen Fries

What Happened To Adventure, And Manners Especially
