Tearing down statues is an act of vandalism. A city counsel or a state voting to remove and or relocate a statue from a public space is not. They tried that with the big statue of Sam Houston on I-45, who was a slave owner, and were wildly unsuccessful.

Most of the Confederate Monuments now being removed and relocated were erected with full support of the governments in the Southern States. Some after fierce battles for the return of White controlled governments. Some that have been recently removed were celebrating those battles. So now when communities win the votes, not violent battles, and votes to remove those monuments makes it right, but not by might. That how they were erected!
