Are you watching Jeff Sessions? "I don't remember" is a terrible explanation.

Jeff Sessions did an excellent job. Hats off to Senator Cotton for his time

The Holder/Obama comment was epic

-Geaux
What comment was that? I missed some parts due to my cable going out.

He reminded Sen Crimestien about how Holder refused to disclose private conversations with Obama. Just like the private conversations he had with Mr Trump

-Geaux

How was he supposed to remember everyone in that reception line who basically said, "Good Speech, Attorney General?!
He knew the Russian ambassador was one of the four honored guests, so Sessions should have said he attended several functions where russians were in attendance.

Instead Sessions said "I haven't, have not had any communications with the russians"

Sessions had compartmentalized his mind. He was at those events as a Senator, not as a member of the Trump campaign.

When he was asked at his confirmation hearing about contacts with Russians, the questions were framed in the context of him being a member of the Trump campaign. He saw his contacts with Russians as a Senator not being germane.

Every Senator comes in contact with foreign dignitaries as part of their duties. So it is understandable Sessions would discount those events.

I completely believe him when he says he would never collude with a hostile enemy to undermine our electoral process. It is a thoroughly ridiculous proposition a man of his character would do such a thing.

If Al Franken had any integrity, he would say the same. But he doesn't.

I don't remember?
Well, that was worthy of a drum roll....
sounds like my reaction to many of the questioning of the dems and the IRS stuff and more. :)

all sides suck.

Was he even allowed to meet with the Russian Ambassador? Doesn't that violate Dodd-Frank or the Separation of Church and State or something?
Holding hidden communications with a hostile foreign power who attacked the foundation of our government, elections, doesn't look good. Such meetings always draw scrutiny.
oh good god - more drama please.

we attack the foundations of our gov every day.

What is the question? He signed the termination letter.
Sessions recused himself from anything "Russian" in the Trump Administration/Russian investigation. Then he signed the termination letter and Trump said he was firing Comey because of the Russian investigation, which, of course, violates Sessions recusal pledge. Got it?
You have that wrong. If you take the time to read Rod Rosensteins letter, the reason for the termination is because of Comey's usurping of power away from prosecutors, having press conferences to the public which were against the rules and manifested himself as prosecutor, judge and jury on the Hillary Clinton investigation. There is nothing about the Russian investigation that was paramount in the reason for the termination of Comey. Several former Attorney Generals and Deputy Attorney generals weighed in on the problem of Comey's behavior.
If that was the real reason, they would have fired him on Day One, and they would have had a meeting with Comey to criticize him long before firing him.

They would not have waited until the day after Trump asked them for an excuse to fire him several months into the Administration.

It's bullshit.
Honestly, I have a problem with the timing as well. But Democratic Attorney Generals agreed with the decision to fire him.
Rosenstein was using ex post facto reasons to fire Comey. He was reverse engineering the case after being directed by Trump to find a way to fire Comey. But it is a simple fact, admitted by Trump, the real reason was the Russian investigation.

Those letters were a railroad job. They are not the reason Comey was fired.
AN EXCERPT FROM THE ROSENSTEIN LETTER (note...both Democrat and Republican AG's weighed in how effective Comey was...
1. My perspective on these issues is shared by Former Attorneys General and Deputy General from different eras and both political parties.

Judge Laurence Silberman who served as Deputy Attorney General under President Ford, wrote that, “it is not the bureau’s responsibility to opine on whether a matter should be prosecuted. Silberman believes that the Director’s performance was so inappropriate for an FBI director that [he] doubt(s) the bureau will ever completely recover.”

2. Jamie Gorelick, Deputy Attorney General under president Clinton, joined with Larry Thompson, Deputy Attorney General under G.W. Bush to opine that the Director had chosen personally to restrike the balance between transparency and fairness. Departing from the department’s traditions.” They concluded that the Director violated his obligation to preserve, protect and defend the traditions of the Department and the FBI.

3. Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who served under George W. Bush, observed that the Director ‘stepped way outside his job in disclosing the recommendation in that fashion because the FBI director “doesn’t make that decision.”

4. Alberto Gonzalez who served as Attorney General under George W. bush, called the decision “an error in judgment.”

5. Eric Holder, who served as Deputy Attorney General under president Clinton and Attorney General under President Obama, said that the Director’s decision was “incorrect.” It violated a long standing Justice Department policies and traditions. And it ran counter to guidance that I put in place four years ago laying out the proper way to conduct investigations during an election season.” Holder concluded that the Director “broke with these fundamental principles” and negatively affected the public trust in both the Justice Department and the FBI.”

6. Former Deputy Attorneys General; Gorelick and Thompson described the unusual events, as” real time, raw take transparency taken to it’s illogical limit, a kind of reality TV of federal criminal investigation,” that is “antithetical to the interest of justice.”

7. Donald Ayer, who served Deputy Attorney General under President GHW Bush, along with other former Justice Department officials was astonished and perplexed by the decision to “break with the long standing practices followed by officials of both parties during past elections. Ayers letter noted, “Perhaps most troubling…is the precedent set by this departure from the Department’s widely respected, non partisan traditions.”

Sessions was given an honorary title in the Trump campaign. Trump just wanted his name on his list of endorsements to add prestige to his shady reputation.

Sessions might have acted occasionally as a surrogate for Trump on a talking head show. If he did, I don't recall a single instance.

Sessions just went right on being a Senator, doing what Senators do. And one of the things Senators do is go to shindigs where other muckety-mucks are in attendance, including foreign ambassadors.

As has been carefully explained SEVERAL times, Trump did not fire Comey on the recommendation of Rosenstein or Sessions.

Was he even allowed to meet with the Russian Ambassador? Doesn't that violate Dodd-Frank or the Separation of Church and State or something?
Holding hidden communications with a hostile foreign power
This is a delusional fantasy. The idea a man like Sessions would conspire to do such a thing is beyond absurd.

The story that Trump fired Comey on the recommendation of Sessions and Rosenstein has been exposed. It was exposed by Trump himself, and that it was all a Big Lie was confirmed by Sessions today.

Timing is everything. It's like being served a burnt steak, but waiting for them to bring you the bill to complain about it.

After you've eaten all of it.

The Russians attacked us. Repeatedly. Of this I have no doubt.

But the collusion theorists are getting too far over their skis with Sessions.

Sessions was complicit in the firing of Comey. Trump used Sessions to get to Comey, and Sessions is going to have to live with that.

But that's as far as the Jeff Sessions story goes, folks.

Sure, he's lying about what he knew about Comey's firing, but I don't think that's much of an issue. He's denying that he had a third meeting with the ruskie ambassador. I don't know what evidence there is as to whether it occurred.

What is the job of any ambassador to any country?

Bottom line, you got nothin'!

You must be so proud.

I agree with you...but remember, we most likely hack the Russians as well.

This is just like when Bill Clinton said he didn't have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky. Because the legal definition of sex. People didn't buy that either. When Sessions denied all communication, his answer went beyond the question.

Q. Did you watch the news on TV yesterday.

A. I have never watched TV in my life.

Q. Didn't you watch the CSPAN coverage of the hearing?

A. I was answering in the context of the news.

Q. Then why did you answer in the absolute?

I was very pleased to hear Sessions say that the 'leakers' are going to be very sorry

Go get em Senator
