That is true but then he did promise it and he did have a majority in Congress as he had both the House and the Senate in his favor for 2 years.
The big thing is that he PROMISED something that he was not in a position to accomplish. As such, his promise was a LIE. He should have said "I shall try to get better health care". He said "I promise I will repeal Obamacare and give you something better". He not only failed in his promise but NEVER came out with anything better, not even on paper.
It was on paper. And we don't know if he would have accomplished it or not as he was denied a second term in 2020. And it is a strange thing that a President would be accused of lying when it is Congress and the Supreme Court who denied him the ability to keep a promise at least in the early going.
What politician EVER commits to more than one line of intentions in campaign promises? None in my lifetime. They don't say, I will push Congress to pass. . .they say I will do it. Every single one of them going all the way back to JFK which is the first campaign I paid close attention to.
Show me a single time Kamala has declared she will do something IF Congress passes the legislation which would be necessary in most of her campaign promises. No, she too says "I will do it." I will say she doesn't mean most of her promises based on her track record, but I don't disingenuously accuse her of lying because she states them as fact. It's just the way campaign rhetoric is done.
Trump most obviously did mean it when he said he would repeal Obamacare and the House did vote to repeal it. With a razor thin majority and too many RINOs voting with the Democrats, it didn't make it through the Senate.
At least be honest. If you are going to accuse Trump of lying because he was unable to get Obamacare repealed in his first four years, at least admit Obama was just as much of a 'liar' in all the things he promised to do that didn't get done in eight years.
--repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes. Never got done.
--close the Guantanamo Detention Center (he could have done that by exec order. It is still open)
--Create a cap and trade system to combat global warming--the House passed that one, the Senate refused.
--Sign the 'Employee Free Choice Act" to make it easier to unionize. Again Congress refused.
--Allow imported prescription drugs--he dropped that one to get doctors to support the ACA
--One thing he promised to do immediately when elected was sign an act guaranteeing abortion rights. He didn't even try.
--Establish the National Health Insurance Exchange. It was was not included in the final ACA legislation.
--Pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants--he didn't even try.
--Bring Democrats and Republicans together to pass legislation. He was the most divisive President in history up to that point as illustrated by his “They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back" line referring to the Republicans in Congress.
There is such a thing as intellectual honesty in these things. Honorable people do not characterize their opponents or make political demands of them they do not do to those they support. Obama wasn't lying when he made those promises on the campaign trail. He intended to do them but couldn't or they just weren't priorities later on.
So could an honorable TDS afflicted never Trumper at least cut Trump an equal amount of slack there?
