Are you a Boomer? Congratulations, You Won the Economy!

Too easy to bitchslap citygator :abgg2q.jpg:
Give me a break on response time. I am dealing with all the Tariff changes at work.

Here you go... you didnt "pay into social security".... you paid into aircraft carriers and wars. Then you borrowed $30T and are using that to get a stipend. Its a shell game. Its a ponzi scheme. Wont be there for us and we'll have to pay for your borrowed old folks money. Must be nice to freeload.

Congrats Boomers! You win. You have accumulated more stuff than anyone AND you have set up more government perks than anyone according to a new Wall Street Journal article.

Today’s Boomers have tilted the economy towards themselves and saddled younger generations with their debt and payouts and the cost is swallowing the budget.

As of the third quarter of last year, people 70 and over controlled roughly 39% of all equities and mutual funds owned by households, compared with 22% in 2007, according to Federal Reserve data. Their share of net worth—assets minus debts—was 32%, up from 20% two decades earlier.

This is good news: there has never been a better time in America to be old. Yet it also exposes our disjointed national priorities. We keep pouring resources into making the elderly comfortable and happy when the economy’s pressure points lie elsewhere.

The elderly are mostly out of the job market and thus need not worry about being replaced by artificial intelligence. The majority own their homes, often debt-free. Everyone worries about health costs, but the elderly have publicly funded Medicare. None of this is true for the younger generations.

The cost is swallowing the budget. Federal spending on elderly programs has risen from 6.9% of gross domestic product in 2007 to 9.4% last year and will reach 11.3% in a decade, the Congressional Budget Office projects.

That is where the real threat to intergenerational harmony lies. Elderly programs, plus interest, are the primary driver of the gaping budget deficit. By 2032, Social Security will no longer be able to pay full benefits. Fixing the deficit and Social Security requires some combination of higher taxes or lower future benefits, both of which will largely spare today’s elderly. If you think the young are anxious now, just wait.

Socialism doesn’t work long term? What? Been telling you idiots that since the democrats dropped that turd on us.

Then what are you arguing about if you are not a boomer? The boomers left a $30T deficit, are whining about working immigrants, and siphoning our budget with their federally funded healthcare no one else has, and they are getting a paycheck from the rest of us. Sweet deal for a bunch of racist xenophobes.
Maybe you should stop voting for democrats that block all spending cuts.

The only way to have had continued increased benefits for future generations after the post war bubble of Americans started retiring, was another wave of amnesty for long term undocumented immigrant workers that GWB proposed, but was torpedoed by the emerging rabid Limbaugh Right.

Furthermore you can't discount the effect of the export of Capital with the free trade zones and what that did to the manufacturing base. As well as the downsizing of the taxes paid by mega corporations compared to individual taxes

Yeah, higher taxes, more socialism and more illegals will fix it. Retard.

How else do you propose balancing out the drop in birthrate. More citizens means more workers on the payroll, paying taxes, SS and Medicare. Not an increase in under the table wages.

Do you expect that the National Debt will just dissolve itself?

With a corresponding drop in birthrate there should also be a corespnding drop in the need for government services.
We're dealing with the bulge in births after WWII and their retirement. While we've been paying for our entitlements by working all our lives, the politician have been on a deficit spending binge for nearly my entire working life. Bushes Amnesty was going to flatten that curve. You can thank the Rabid right for the cuts we'll see. Well, that is if we survive Benedict Donald intact.

We elect them. They vote for bills to spend but dont vote to pay them with taxes. Cuts will never happen. You need to raise the revenue and not by magic trickle down. Why are we letting the top 10% get record levels of the economic pie while we pile up record debts? Tax the top.

You're singing to the choir. Aren't you blaming the people who happen to be born during the post war boom, when it is the politicians, driven by the elite, who are to blame for most of the deficit spending and debt. The elite are the one who fund the politician campaigns. Thanks to the Roberts Court their money is even more influential in electing pliable politicians who care more for the interest of their donors than the people who vote for them.

A government grown in proportion with the birth boom. Now it's radically changed the other way. Tell me it isn't time to cut back government in a proprtionate manner.

???

You know it's going to take 70-90 years for that, right?

The Boomers born in the 40's and 50's aren't going to reflected in a lower need for SS, Elder Care, Medical Care until the 2040's and beyond.

Or do you mean, cut serviced now based on birth rate now even though a punch of people from prior generations are still around?

WW

We have plenty of money to pay our debts. We incurred the debts while a few people piled up wealth by buying congress and cutting their own tax burdens. Unwind that and we are fine.

Yep. Mostly Im pointing out to a group of people (right wing Boomers) replete with finger pointers that THEY are also the problem. Most of the Boomers in here defending SS tooth and nail are the same jokers who didnt want to extend ACA subsidies. They already have free healthcare and a monthly stipend.. what do they care?

The U.S. labor force, which reached a record high of 170.7 million in January 2025, saw significant expansion at a 1.6% pace during the post-pandemic recovery (2021–2024), driven by immigration. Growth is projected to slow to 0.4% annually between 2026 and 2034, with total employment expected to rise to approximately 175 million by 2033.

It's the rising costs that is the biggest factor not population numbers.

I opposed cutting the support. But, I opposed the ACA because we need a single payer solution for the entire county. That said. I've paid into social security/medicare for over 50 years now. Not only do I pay over 2 grand in premiums for Medicare, but also I have a premium payment for an advantage plan. Btw if you don't take Medicare at 65 you really get F'ed. When I started working the retirement age was 65. Now it's 67. (for me 66 years and 10 months.)They raised that under RayGun and they increased SS taxes because they needed to for the program to remain solvent. The Neo-Political class doesn't want it to be solvent, they want it to go away.

The rising costs are attributed to illegals swarming the country, overloading housing, food and lots of other areas. You know, shortages.
Top that off with illegals taking good union jobs by a willingness to do the same thing for a lower wage in many industries.

Boomers paved the way and filled the tills for all the uninspired lib loons free shit

Undocumented immigrant are not contributing to the rising cost of Medicare. They are not and have not been eligible for Medicare or SS.

The welfare programs they used to be eligible for have already been cut.
