A tale of two teams, Carolina and Minnesota.

One is going to the playoffs, the other isn't but is absolutely certain it has its "QB of the future"

Carolina was the funniest of the "we got to get a rookie QB" disasters. They hired "QB guru" Frank Reich. They traded 3 first rounders to get the #1 pick, but didn't yet know which QB that would be. They picked Bryce Young over CJ Stroud, brilliant. Other choices Will Levis and AR15.... good grief....

Who was Carolina's QB before Bryce Young?

Some garbage loser QB named Sam Darnold....

Who the NYJ traded up in Round 1, giving up a 6th overall and 3 second rounders to get... the JETS another team with a minor team/QB problem...

So the Vikings, who have a great WR corps and an OL that really excels in pass protection.... THEY TOOK a QB in ROUND 1.... who got hurt....

and in comes.... oh no.... Sam Darnold...

Sam Darnold was never really that bad or that good. Like many QBs, if you give him quality protection in the pocket and WRs who get open and catch the ball, he looks like a HOFer...

Washington used to have a great OL, and made Theismann, Williams, and Mark Rypien all look like HOFers...

The notion that an 11 man offense in the sport of football is just about one and only one guy out there is

COMPLETELY REFUTED BY THE VIKINGS THIS YEAR!!!

Go Sam Darnold!!! Go Vikings!!!

The big take is that it is more than one person. On the other hand, look at Tom Brady. I was never a huge fan but one has to give him his due (I actually think he does a great job in the booth). Belichick gets a lot of credit but he never won much of anything before or after Brady. Brady did go on to win after Belichick.

Maybe that is the exemption to the rule. Mahomes isn't having a great year but KC is still winning.

I think what it shows is you need patience with a young QB
Teams draft a “future Hall of Famer “ with a high draft pick and then throw him in as a starter.

When he doesn’t light up the league in his first few years, they are ready to dump him.

A year ago, Bryce Young was a bust and CJ Stroud was a star.
This year they look about the same

Supporting cast matters.

Immediate success stories as rookie QBs = Roethlisberger and Culpepper

Each had

3 Pro Bowl OLs
HOF caliber WRs
a great RB

You are correct that experience matters. Experience with a horrible supporting cast wrecks QB prospects. David Carr was one. Experience with a strong supporting cast and Mark Rypien is the greatest QB ever....

Yeah, but when Brady's OL failed twice in the Super Bowl against NYG, Brady himself could not overcome that.

Tom Brady is a good example
He did not come into the league as a future GOAT

Patriots had a good defense and a running game. Brady was expected to be a game manager, make no mistakes and let the team carry you.

He didn’t become the GOAT till after two Super Bowls

and he won one when Torry Holt zagged while Kurt Warner expected him to zig = "route tree confusion" and the resulting pick 6 lost the game for the Rams.

If one recalls during the regular season that year, They played the giants Brady set a record. At the end of the game the defender fell down 2 x in a row against Moss, he dropped the first pass-wide open caught the second pass for TD so both Brady and moss get records. Price= super bowl
