Why Does Pittsburgh Suck Eggs?

Rogers is a highly skilled QB whose time came about 5 years ago. While I follow the Stillers, Roethlisberger was never much of a "real" QB. For the most part, he played rather poor throwing balls either 5 yards long or short most of the time, most of his (completed) passes being short check downs, and had so much trouble finding open receivers he became famous for running around trying to buy time until he found someone open. His big size helped with that.

He played well just often enough just well enough to keep his illusion of greatness alive. His last 5 years playing were a total wash. Ben was a QB who looked a lot better on paper reading his stats than he ever looked on the field. He had two good years IMO--- the year he started (2004) when he won almost every game (then lost to Tom Brady in the playoffs), and the year they went to SB 43 (XLIII) the year they played Arizona in the Super Bowl.

He had great pocket "precense" he could shuffle around and keep plays alive. As you noted above.

Maybe Rodgers in his prime could do it, but even the great ones can't do it by themselves.

Well, Rogers had a pretty bad year last year and the year before that he was out with an Achilles. So my guess is that Rogers might have one last playing season left in him where he is lukewarm, but after this year, I cannot imagine the Steelers wanting him back.

How much did they have to pay "coach rogers"? NY is still paying him I think? These owners are crazy what they agree too.

OK, so the Steelers have gotten Aaron Rogers to sign with them, one of the best QBs of all time. So why will the Stillers still suck eggs again this year?
Could it be because:
  1. Stillers had Russell Wilson last year and went nowhere.
  2. Rogers is an over the hill old man.
  3. The Stillers threw away Justin Fields, who probably plays close to Rogers as a QB now anyway, plus had youth and great running ability.
  4. The Stillers have Mike Tomlin, a DEI head coach with no ability to develop QBs.
  5. The Stiller's offensive play card is so pedantic that a few years ago, they hired a guy with no NFL experience as their offensive coordinator. Basically, the Stiller offense is at a high school level of complexity.
  6. It's been years since Rogers played well, and is only aboard with the Stillers for one season.
  7. Mike Tomlin has zero ability to get the best from any players. Season after season, he has enormous talent go through his fingers, unable to get them to hardly even show up much less pay attention. Their latest loss was George Pickens, one of the best WRs, let go because Tomlin simply was not able to get the guy focused.
I predict the Stillers go nowhere with Rogers this year, and end up lucky to even break even at 9-8 or 10-7.

.
Steelers going with washed up old has been qb's instead of developing their own thru the draft. This win now mentality is, and will, bite them in the ass.
AR will be a locker room catastrophe.

Well, the rub is that Tomlin (head coach) was a defensive player and has never understood how to develop an offense. Worse, the Steelers often do not even have a QB coach. Steelers tend to cheap out on coaching using mostly token appointees while Tomlin runs everything. So Tomlin has a terrible track record in finding and developing QB talent (presumably why they are looking for a QB which does not need developed).

The uptick to all of this is that rumor has it that Rogers will insist on having a lot of input on how the offense is run, maybe even on hiring another WR. I actually gave serious thought last year on stopping following the Steelers, but now I will watch them this year just to see what impact Rogers has on shaping/changing their pedantic offense.

Their offense has been so predictable that most teams already know what play they are calling before they even run the play.

Plus the first game of the season, they play the Jets. So it will be Rogers against his old team; add to that that last year's Steelers ex-quarterback Justin Fields (whom many think the Steelers should have kept), is now playing for the Jets.

It would be kind of embarrassing for the Steelers to lose with Rogers playing against their old 2nd string QB whom they let go (and could have had for a lot less money).

What Fields lacked in QBing in his 6 games starting for the Steelers (he was pretty OK, not bad, not great), he more than made up for with youth and a running ability to run out of the pocket and gain yards that rivaled Lamar Jackson in his youth.

I don't follow the Steelers (Go Lions!) so I can't really say much about them and what they're doing. But WTH, I'll run my mouth anyway. When the Rams traded for Stafford they believed they had a SB-quality team that needed a better QB than Goff was to get them further in the playoffs. Same with Denver when they got Peyton Manning, they tried to get the best QB they could that wouldn't make the big mistake. But I don't see the Steelers in that position, is their team good enough to advance farther in the playoffs with a better QB under Center? AND, just how much better will Rodgers be, is he worth $20 mil or whatever they're paying him?

I am under the impression that there are no shortcuts to the Lombardi Trophy. You have to build an SB-quality team the hard way and that takes years that some Steeler fans don't have the patience for. Not sure Tomlin and the top Steelers mgt do either. But maybe I'm wrong and Rodgers can work his magic one more time and turn this team into an SB contender this year. I doubt it, but if he does I will step up and admit I was wrong.
Rogers isn’t the answer

CLEVE has too many QB. Deion shooting off his mouth, unhappy with 5th round draft slot. Uh, maybe afraid to draft his as Daddy won't shut up? Totally disrespecting 3rd round Gabriel.

The rotten media, All I hear is when will Sanders start? by the 5th game? Yet he is number 5 on the depth chart. Why did they draft Gabriel? For trade bait?

PITT drafted NCAA champ Howard who lit up ORE in the championship game throwing bombs right in stride. But nary a peep outa the dirty media.,....they have decided. Howard is a bust until they see otherwise? But 5th rounder Sanders is a lock.

Here's another one floating around the Burgh'

Does anyone think Rogers will make it through one full season?

Yeah, Fields or Rudy would do better in that situation. I think Will Howard is a sleeper.

Well, for years, Pittsburgh's QB whoever he was, has not had time to even look down the field. I hope Rogers likes taking a lot of sacks.

That was the one good thing about Fields--- when the pocket caved, he was lightning quick out of the pocket and ran down the field faster than their RBs to still get some yards. Rogers won't be doing that.

I don't know anything about Howard but I hear many are intrigued by him and hoped to see him play some this year.

He's got some pretty good stats. When he made his appearance at Steeler HQ, the first thing he asked for was a copy of the playbook......staff was kinda surprised. there's a video of him at a team interview, don't think it's the Steelers, but its good.
Let me look for it.

Roethlisberger was so big he could stand there and take a lot of abuse. Rogers can't.
