Rogers is a highly skilled QB whose time came about 5 years ago. While I follow the Stillers, Roethlisberger was never much of a "real" QB. For the most part, he played rather poor throwing balls either 5 yards long or short most of the time, most of his (completed) passes being short check downs, and had so much trouble finding open receivers he became famous for running around trying to buy time until he found someone open. His big size helped with that.
He played well just often enough just well enough to keep his illusion of greatness alive. His last 5 years playing were a total wash. Ben was a QB who looked a lot better on paper reading his stats than he ever looked on the field. He had two good years IMO--- the year he started (2004) when he won almost every game (then lost to Tom Brady in the playoffs), and the year they went to SB 43 (XLIII) the year they played Arizona in the Super Bowl.
He had great pocket "precense" he could shuffle around and keep plays alive. As you noted above.
