‘You lost this vote’: Arab Americans in Dearborn struggle in an election where they don’t feel heard (link, excerpt below)
I thought these people came to the U.S. for something better, to avoid the pre-medieval barbarism of the Middle East. Are they here to better themselves or subvert their adopted homeland?
I'm confused; I thought whoever "Fahs" is, and for that matter anyone who votes in an American election is supposed to consider what's good for their adopted country, and not have one foot in Gaza, one in Dearborn. I may personally weigh what's good for Jews or Israel when I vote but it's hardly my only consideration. Why doesn't the article author point this out?NBC News said:That haunting reality weighs heavily on Fahs, now back home in Michigan, a key swing state that holds outsize weight in determining the next president, making every vote crucial. With Arab Americans making up a significant part of the state’s electorate, their support could be decisive. Fahs says he’s disaffected with both candidates — former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The way he sees it, it doesn’t matter who is in office — no candidate cares about Gaza or Arab life.
