I don't believe the depictions were quite so blatant. There were a few movies that alluded to homosexuality but had no romantic or sexual scenes.

Hollywood does have a problem, in that movies aren't really cost-effective. The concept of the Summer Blockbuster, which started with Jaws in 1975, has kind of come to an end. You spend 100 Million or more on a tentpole picture, expecting to get that all back at the box office.

Except... you don't. Not since the combination of Covid made going to the movies unpopular and streaming made watching movies at home popular.

So you got your choice. You can pay $40.00 each for four tickets, and another $50.00 for drinks. to sit in a dirty theater, where a real human isn't even manning the projection booth and maybe it's in focus. And maybe they haven't cranked up the sound too high. Or you can wait a couple of weeks and watch it at home with your home theater system, where the sound and picture are just as good. You can pause if you have to go to the can. And best of all, you will know if you are watching a bad movie or not.

Disney is very risk adverse, they stick with established IP such as Star Wars, Marvel and the Disney Classics.
