Grand Way Hunting Knife GW148109

Screenshot_20230120-094726-650.png

Full tang, â…› inch thick, blade length 4.3 inches, 440C steel (?)...$13 on Amazon.

Homage to the Buck 692 Vanguard...

I've bought three or four of these Grand Way knives and always been pleased with them.

One qualifier...They do market them as "steel marked 440C" so I'm not sure if they are actually 440C.

Two of my GW knifes are marked 440C and they have held up well.

Mine should be here tomorrow.

Without reading the post, I immediately thought "Buck Vanguard" when I saw the picture. :laughing0301:

But not for $13 bucks.

True. Low end: $40, high end: $310 for a BUCK 192 Eagle Feather Vanguard closing auction prices on Ebay.

I'm seeing the rubber handled going for $90 on Knife Center and Midway.

I'm just not willing to part with a C-note for a four inch knife.

It was the Selkirk that I really liked...but this GW is close enough.

Might see if the pommel is removable and replace the rubber with wood someday.

Hey Gault, I doubt you are into chunking knives, but at $13 bucks, it probably has a fairly light handle. Have you tried putting into a tree and if so, what ranges?

You know I really like a knife when I start the leather sheath the first night I have it.

Going to let it dry tonight which should allow it to form.

Tomorrow or whenever I get back to it the crossdraw loop will be added.

Should look something like this when it is done...

Grand Way has been gone for a long time. I still have a jar of honey from there.

Got a little done today.

Still a little wet from the trimming.

First time doing one of these and did make one mistake as a result.

The edges of the belt loop piece should have been burnished before it was attached.

Wore this in the green for a week to see if I liked it and I love it. You hardly know you're wearing this style of sheath at all.

So I finished it.
