Another Debate Audience Recites Pledge when Moderator says "no!"

What Im talking about is the nationalism you are hawking right now, otherwise you wouldnt want to force people that wouldnt normally use the pledge.

To keep claiming the left is un-American or hates our country is plain stupid. We are no less American than you are.

Anyone who refuses the pledge of allegiance is , in my eyes, not 100% American.
I salute the flag and say the pledge at least once a month myself. And I mean it. You don't like it, too bad for you.

Ok mister proud American. You have a right to your opinion.

Theyre still Americans no matter what your opinion is.

And? You are telling us something new here?

Hypothetical question for you.
You run into a neighbor at the grocery store, he happens to belong to a veterans organization, and he invites you to a free veterans day dinner.

You decide to attend and they start the evening with Posting the Colors and reciting the Pledge. Do you recite it with them or refuse?
In the situation you've described I would be obliged to recite as a simple matter of courtesy on an appropriate occasion. Otherwise I would have no such motivation, which doesn't mean I am less patriotic than anyone else.

My neighbor down the street has a flagpole in front of his house with a big American flag on it. His house looks like a Post Office. I have no flag but I gave the Marine Corps four years of my young life. My neighbor with the flag didn't serve at all.

So what?

Then you won't mind leaving America and renouncing your citizenship? After all... being proud of your nation and heritage and culture is meaningless.

Isn't it?

You dont know what nationalism is do you?

You don't know how stupid it is to equate the pledge with nationalism do YOU?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

So, since you dont know Ill explain. Not that youll pay attention..........or learn anything.

Nationalism involves a strong identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms, i.e. a nation.

Conversely, nationalism might also be portrayed as collective identities towards imagined communities which are not naturally expressed in language, race or religion but rather socially constructed by the very individuals that belong to a given nation.[6] Nationalism is sometimes reactionary, calling for a return to a national past, and sometimes for the expulsion of foreigners. Other forms of nationalism are revolutionary, calling for the establishment of an independent state as a homeland for an ethnic underclass.

National flags, national anthems, and other symbols of national identity are often considered sacred, as if they were religious rather than political symbols.

Definition of NATIONALISM
1
: loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups
2
: a nationalist movement or government
Examples of NATIONALISM

1. The war was caused by nationalism and greed.
2. <Nazism's almost epic nationalism appealed to downtrodden Germans still suffering the humiliation of being defeated in World War I.>

Truth is, the semantic difference between the words "nationalism" and "patriotism" is very slight indeed. The main difference is in usage. The former is used by American historians when talking about Nazis while the latter is used by American historians when talking about North American colonists of the 18th century.

The pledge is "nationalism???????"

Keep this up liberals!

The pledge is not a good thing? For Who??????????

Apparently, it's not a good thing for liberals!

Good! Keep on saying the pledge people!

:D

"The Pledge of Allegiance" is our countries pledge. It instills nationalism, that is it makes us proud. What Im saying is bad are nationalists, like yourself.

Im very proud of our country but the current nationalistic attitudes of some of you is unacceptable. You will find that out at some point.

Oh get this! I'm a "nationalist" because I'm for saying the pledge.

And of course that's bad because it might make people want to vote for the COUNTRY instead of socialist goodies like Obama offers. :eusa_snooty:

THAT's why liberals find this bad. Can't have people feeling pride in their country!

Noooooooooooooo, can't have that! :eusa_snooty:

Keep this up liberals. Tuesday is coming!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

No, you are a nationalist because you wear your pride on your sleeve.

What can you expect from people who also don't have a problem with burning the American flag? I'm glad the audience recited the Pledge.

Well it starts with the fact that we have a President who is ashamed of this country.Doesn't he have a wife after all who until just recently hated it as well?

Well by your estimation a person isnt American if they refuse to recite it, youd be wrong but you have the right to the wrong opinion. I think thats something new to you.

I don't get what all the disagreement is about. This is one of those rare stories where everbody did the right thing. Murphy did the right thing, the moderator's response was the right thing, and the crowd's spontaneous citing of the pledge was also the right thing. All things considered that is.

Go everyone.

The League of Women Voters has been doing these debates for decades. They are the most respected and neutral organization for sponsoring these debates.
As such, they demand a certain decorum from the audience. The audience is there to observe and observe only. They are not to perform public displays, they are not to cheer, they are not to heckle. The ground rules are spelled out before the audience enters

For Murphy to grandstand and ask for the pledge was outside the agreed to scope of the debate and a blatant attempt to wrap himself in the flag. The League of Women Voters was correct in turning down his request
Respected? By whom?. To those of you on the political Left the LOWV is a God-like entity because they agree with your agenda.
After this incident, don't even try saying the League is neutral.

Blow it out your America hating liberal ass. You and all your unappreciative entitled jerks.
First it was Merry Christmas....Now you attack the Pledge of Allegience.
What's next, Mothers Day?
In anticipation of your response..**** you back.. Ok ,we're done and you're on ignore.

LWV is a Progressive Front Group. I mean its the year 2010 why do we even need a LVW anymore?

How much has George Soros contributed to the LVW?

LMAO, well they sure would not be a "conservative" group.

Yes women wanting equal rights and such is progressive.
Be conservative and keep em at home and pregnant making sammiches.
Aww go piss up a tree.
I suppose you have no clue that women now make up a majority of students in Coleges and Universities.
Like they need liberal advocacy groups like the LWV...
Stone age thinking.

Pretty funny!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Stone age thinking.

They are smart enough to know they cannot let their guard down as long as there is still one republican running loose in America. The same is true with affirmative action.
