American trucks are much better than German ones

The beetle was the worst car ever sold in the United States.

I disagree. Can you name another car that they stopped making in 1979, and you still see plenty of them on the road?

If you wanted luxury or high performance, the Beetle was not a good car for you. If you wanted economy and a car that could last forever? The Beetle was it.

Until now, American cars are much larger, on average, I think, 2 times larger, both in size and displacement.

Americans love everything big and grandiose. This is the American spirit.
There are regulatory differences here. Thats why Volvo has some very different trucks for the US market.

Pablum. The beetle was awful. It was a slow, ugly, poor-braking, poor-handling, unheated deathtrap. It was woefully outdated even in 1966 and should have been euthanized decades before it finally was. Aside from "cute" it did NOTHING well.

It could "last forever" if you rebuilt it every few years, and it needed lots of service...like any 1930 design! Of course, getting stuck in traffic on a hot day could easily mean you needed a motor.
