AMAZING....Some R-W'ers actually like Sanders...

I don't care what he calls himself, he makes sense. Here's the title of his homepage on his website:

"Nobody who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty."

Realize if that is someone's situation, which it is if you work for Walmart, then who picks up the tab and fills in the gaps? Taxpayers.

So pay now or pay later. But it's probably cheaper to pay now. Preventing something is always cheaper than trying to fix it later.
No, that makes no sense. I've had low paying jobs and lived accordingly, well below the government poverty line. I had no taxpayers bailing me out, so he is either lying or just plain stupid. Or both.

Liking someone on a personal level is one thing liking their policy views and positions is another. I like that Sanders says what he believes and sticks to it I like the same thing about Rand Paul but I don't think either would make a good President.

Just answer the question, if he's not a socialist, why does he refer to himself as a socialist? is he a liar? does he not understand what a socialist is? Or perhaps Bernie understands his own ideology better than you do and you're just a moron that doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

Personally I'll go with option C.

This is not the forum to educate morons (like you)...Carry on.

In chatting with some of my right wing-leaning friends, some actually like or even admire Bernie Sanders.

So, what is it that keeps some republicans from translating that admiration into votes?

First and foremost, I've been told, is this somewhat misleading notion that the label of "democratic socialist" is an anathema in our culture....that we've been conditioned to presume that socialism equal communism and that capitalism would be wrecked by any social-leaning policies.....Yet, our military is a perfect example of a "socialist structure" and both social security and Medicare are the very definition of socialism. After all, many of our closest and well-governed allies function in a socialistic system.

The second, "problem" for backing Sanders is his age....Yet, he has a very good report on his health status, and seems as spry as virtually all other candidates. Our life span has considerably gotten longer, and even if Sanders were to serve only one term, his policies would set a standard that under a social democrat administration, many good factors....both social and economic.....could be improved.

So, what is the problem?

I have said that he seems genuine.... that I admire... he is who he is. Would I ever vote for him, fuck no, he's a loon.

I've seen this like for Sander's as well. He is the one that will walk into the oval office while everyone else is bickering.

And he isn't a socialist. He does not advocate nationalizing industry or doing away with capitalism. All he's interested in is making sure all people have health care and a college education so we can compete on the international stage.

trump is a fascist, and we certainly don't need that.
There are many things people are interested in doing. That's not the problem. The problem is he has no way to pay for what he wants to do. "Tax the rich" isn't going to get the job done.

It's just that if you add up everything that Bernie has promised he will have the Government giving away...the cost is SO astronomical that you'd have to have either no math skills whatsoever or be as naive as they come to support someone who proposed what Sanders has.

Actually Sanders DOES discuss where the money is coming from to pay for his programs....Now, you CAN argue that such revenue streams may be too "taxing" (pardon the expression), but it is balanced by the rather simple equation that additional revenue equals additional benefits.

For example, taxes would go up to pay for universal health care....BUT, such taxes would be LESS than what most people are paying to private health insurers.

Sanders and Trump represent two sides of one coin. They represent the undeniable truth that voters are sick and tired of the existing power structure. That's why Jeb can't get out of single digit support, no matter how much money he has access to, and why Hillary can't generate any positive buzz at all. They're both establishment candidates, whereas Sanders and Trump are the most anti-establishment major candidates out there.

Here's a reality check. This is what would happen if you raised taxes to pay for Sanders' fantasies.

1. You would get far less additional revenue than projected. People are not stupid and will not sit idly by while their taxes go up astronomically. They'll take action to mitigate the increase.
2. Congress would immediately go on a spending binge. New spending would far exceed any additional revenue.
3. The Sanders deficit would have to be covered by ever greater debt, just as the Obama deficit is now.
4. We would be worse off than before.

Then why does he refer to himself as a socialist? Are you implying that ole Bernie is less than honest?

Socialist doesn't mean what the right wing thinks it means.

No, he refers to himself as a "democratic socialist" ....and there IS a difference...Most likely Sanders is counting on smarter voters to know the difference.
Bwahahahah!!! You think Sanders voters are smart!!!!

I like Sanders, he is sincere in what he wants and what he is campaigning for. I don't agree with his politics and his vision, so I would not vote for him. I do respect him.

they may like him. even my father says he could be friends with him.

but they'll never vote for him.

and trump's first ad will be the red army marching with hammers and sickles

Bwahahahah!!! You think Sanders voters are smart!!!!

sanders voters are highly educated. ... unlike trump voters. are they smart? yes. also idealistic.

they are voting out of how they want the world to be...not out of what they are afraid will be... unlike trump's angry white people.

I think you nailed it. We are wanting something that is not the status quo and both Sanders and Trump are answers. Not sure if they are good answers or not but they are answers.

Idealistic and educated =/= smart. They = young college students who have little idea how the world actually works. How many of them need safe zones where they don't have to hear anything that makes them sad?

Exactly. Trump is anything but a conservative, yet he's getting a lot of support from them because the democrat alternative is horrifying.

actually it does equal smart.

I can disagree with them and still acknowledge that.... rightwingers have a problem doing that.

that's ok. *shrug*

I guess you have to define smart then. Smart to me includes the ability to see the whole picture and acknowledge where reality trumps ideology. Young, idealistic college students typically don't do that very well.

I guess you put me in my place

*YAWN*..what's next on your agenda? the ole "I know you are but what I am" routine? If you're going to try your hand at flaming at least try to do it with some wit otherwise you're not even interesting enough to bother making fun of.
