I believe this to be fake news. Kelly Johnson who developed the SR-71 Blackbird in the '60s alluded to the fact that the SR71 could go Mach2+ in a 60 minutes piece near 30 years ago. When pressed, he admitted that Mach 5 (hypersonic) was not out of the question. If they had the tech in the 60s, they are way beyond that now.
