For Palestinian filmmakers in Israel, itās loyalty or silence
Israelās persecution of Palestinian actor and filmmaker Mohammad Bakri reflects its desire to censor stories of the occupation while appearing democratic.
If the controversy surrounding Palestinian filmmaker and actor Mohammad Bakri reveals anything, it is the depth of fascism in the State of Israel. It exposes Israelās desire to hide and distort the truth, while simultaneously gloating about how, as an āenlightened democracy,ā it supports Palestinian artists to ātell their story.ā
But what kind of story do we as filmmakers get to tell? Is it truly the Palestinian story, or is it one that simply falls in line with Israelās Zionist vision?
