Alaska is the first red state to legalize recreational Marijuana

Jamaica just decriminalized pot too. Up to two ounces. I can't believe that economy hasn't made it legal. But decriminalizing it will help the tourism.

And i hope it will be tha last! Because i'm tired of this indifference of our government... Huge taxes? high unemployment rate? police brutality? Expensive education? 1 percent earned much more than 99%? Hah, it doesn't matter - seat calm and smoke pot!

Grows wild all over there. Only had it illegal due to US pressure. Along with everyone else in the world. Now that the US is legalizing it expect similar legalizations all over.

Just like casino gambling....all the states are gonna want some of that easy money. Taxing stoners is easier than taxing the rich.

The closest to what it's really like to live amongst pot users is the Walking Dead.

LOL....yeah.....tell us about 'Reefer Madness' also.......

The problem with the scare stories about pot is that most of us have actually been around pot users so stories like yours are just laughable.

I would far, far rather be around someone who is stoned than someone who is drunk.

Not that I really want to be around either most of the time.

There is a medical marijuana shop in our neighborhood- and likely 80% of what is sold is really recreational- and unless you walked up close enough to read the sign, you would think it was a real estate office or a dentist office.

Worth mentioning not all GOP'ers are Bible-thumping idiots. One in particular is to be applauded for pushing for medical marijuana legalization at least.

GOP congressman pushes for medical marijuana - The Washington Post

"Griffith still thinks legalizing marijuana fully, so just anyone can go down to “Billy Bob’s marijuana shop,” is “irresponsible,” he said.

But there has also been a sea change in public opinion on legalizing marijuana for recreational use, as Colorado and Washington state did. A Pew Research Center study in February found 54 percent support making the drug legal, compared with 2010 when 41 percent supported marijuana legalization."

Still work to be done, but it'll get there eventually. Nation-wide legalization. If the resistance was over public safety or health, logicly they'd be for banning alcohol too. It's not. It's a generational thing if anything. People against it are older and from a time when marijuana was associated with ethnic users they didn't like anyway.

Only people with a good reason to keep it illegal work for the alcohol industry. :)

Yeah, not a single person has ever died from a weed overdose. We don't have numbers on pandas, but we're guessing it's about the same. According to one frequently cited study, a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times the amount of THC in a joint in order to be at risk of dying.

Stoner cons! Yea! Won't be long till the rest of the states want some of that money. Then the GOP will get smaller and smaller. Who would have thought that pot would be the cure for stupid?

When'd this happen? See if I ever take a nap again. :)

About time. WTG Alaska.

It happened in 1975, and than not long ago was made illegal again by a referendum.

This time it was put to as vote last November, and won easily. Makes me think some confused individuals live in Alaska.

There's a big difference between being around potheads as a user and a non user.

Yea, some guy on the internet said weed is harmless because of SCIENCE! or something. Well better support legalizing it.

Some people have actually read history and science.

History tells us that drug prohibition leads to money flowing to criminals, and the violence that accompanies criminals fighting for that money.

Science tells us that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol.

Three states now have decided to pay attention to history and science rather than histrionics.

The rest of the United States can watch and see what happens. So far it looks like the biggest effect is more tax money for the States.
