Alabama and SEC Making NCAAF Boring

they win too much.
of course, if it was my school winning all the time I'm sure I would have no complaints :)

Having been a hardcore Bama fan during the worst years, I am enjoying these glory years.

But Bama has earned all those wins.

Shady? I guess that means someone got out recruited but can't find any rules that were broken.

Saban is a master of recruiting. And now it is even easier.

Yeah, I'd like to see proof Bama has done anything shady with recruiting...... ;)
It's a fact. They aren't doing anything illegal just unethical. Ohio state does it too.

For years Michigan didn't do those things and I guess not doing those things put u of M at a disadvantage.

But now u of M is doing it. To win harbaugh has to do everything the big boys are doing, and he is.

I wish I had more details about what it is exactly teams like bama does. Something about promising scholarships to more students than they should then cutting them if they don't pan out.

And I'm not knocking bama or osu for doing it. If it's legal u of M should have been doing it all along. And we are now.

Saban plays within the rules and gets the best athletes possible. He has dominated recruiting.

And whatever else you do in recruiting, winning games and championships will land you the cream of the crop better than any other ploy.
And I'm not saying bama or osu are doing something Michigan isn't doing. Im saying Michigan and msu in the past didn't do it. And msu still doesn't do it. But u of M and harbaugh decided they are going to start doing it because like in bama and Ohio, the only thing that matters is winning.

There are a few ways that head coaches manage their scholarships that seem to annoy or upset people.

The program is allowed 85 scholarships. That is, 85 players who can suit up and play.

A Red Shirt is a player who works with the team, but doesn't play. He saves his eligibility and learns more. Not that long ago freshmen were not allowed to play. So this is no biggie.

A Grey Shirt is a player who delays his enrollment until the beginning of teh winter semester. The number of scholarships is based on enrollment date, so that scholarship doesn't count against that year. And the player can play for 4 years, including the semester after he graduates.

Then there is the Medical Hardship scholarship. They still get a college education, but it ends their chances of playing football at that level. A few people have claimed they were pressured to take it. But it beats being cut.

I don't see the problem with any of those. Saban has built a program that operates at the highest level, and focuses on winning and on turning those youngsters into men. I hope the other coaches follow suit.

I would say do whatever bama is doing. I suspect.

Like some schools won't take a great athlete if he's got bad grades. Who knows how hard it is at bama. Uofm and msu are top schools scholastically

Alabama has some excellent academics. And one of the things Saban pushes is for his players to graduate. He has one of the highest graduation rates among the big schools. My son has a friend who was a "checker". He had a list of players that he would go around and verify they attended their classes. If they didn't, they had to go see Nick.

I'm out.

I hate Bama and don't want this to ruin my Valentine's Day :)

Smart. That means he keeps players longer rather than them going and playing if the Canadian football league or NFL.

But that's not the stuff I'm talking about. It was more about over recruiting and renigging on scholarships.

Anyways, I don't mind. If a student athlete doesn't work out after a year they shouldn't keep a 4 year scholarship

Alabama's never revoked a single scholarship under Saban. Everyone that wants to stay, does. Those that don't end up scholarship players at other schools....with the assistance of Alabama to find them. Everyone that gets a medical hardship...has a scholarship.

I wish I had more details. Fact is we've lifted some regulation we've held against ourselves, probably because back then we were a union state. We treated are players better, even the ones that don't work out.

Point is the gloves are off. Expect a u of M national championship

The union has nothing to do with amateur athletes that don't get paid. Players transfer out of Alabama when they don't get playing time. Some recruits think they are better than the Alabama bench.

Where would you rather be today?

Why should we expect a Michigan football championship? Not like Michigan is the kind of team that's been expected to do that sort of thing much.

Now if it was Ohio State, different story. They are a program you'd expect to compete at that level.

We really don't care much about college basketball. To be fair we need to leave the lesser programs some hope in the other sports or they'd all quit.

I'm out.

I hate Bama and don't want this to ruin my Valentine's Day :)

Why do you hate Bama. If so...then glad you are out. I LOVE BAMA...with a passion. I doubt you can give a good reason why you hate them unless it is jealousy.
BTW They are the purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect color for Valentine's day. ;)

Hate is a mighty strong word.

Let's just say harbaughs going to make NCAA football a lot more interesting.

I heard he got the number 1 defensive lineman and a great quarterback.

He should have finished with only 1 or 2 loses his first year. That is amazing considering how bad they were the year before.

Yeah, we're smarter than you thought. We knew you can't over-recruit...cause there's rules about it.
I wish I had more details. Fact is we've lifted some regulation we've held against ourselves, probably because back then we were a union state. We treated are players better, even the ones that don't work out.

Point is the gloves are off. Expect a u of M national championship
.
PS. Why can't you do it in college basketball too? One trick pony.

They didn't bring harbaugh in to win big ten championships. **** osu. I can only say ye shall see

Alabama has some excellent academics. And one of the things Saban pushes is for his players to graduate. He has one of the highest graduation rates among the big schools. My son has a friend who was a "checker". He had a list of players that he would go around and verify they attended their classes. If they didn't, they had to go see Nick.
Smart. That means he keeps players longer rather than them going and playing if the Canadian football league or NFL.

But that's not the stuff I'm talking about. It was more about over recruiting and renigging on scholarships.

Apparently not....he hasn't won one yet.

Imagine how boring it will be when Bama and Clemson make it to the Championship game again.

Bama will be loaded. Clemson is looking like they will be in the running too.

Michigan is now going to do all that. I don't know what they weren't doing before but now they do it.

The sports talk shows say teams like uofm and msu bragged they didn't do it but now uofm can't say they don't anymore.

I would say do whatever bama is doing. I suspect.

Like some schools won't take a great athlete if he's got bad grades. Who knows how hard it is at bama. Uofm and msu are top schools scholastically

Temperature today in Ann Arbor today, 17.

Temperature today in Tuscaloosa today 56.

Where would you rather be today?
I wonder why bama sucks so bad at basketball they don't even make the NCAA basketball tournament. Don't basketball players like living in Alabama?

I wouldn't know, I don't follow Bama basketball.

Wer've made the tournament a few times. Basketball is just not a big thing in Tuscaloosa. We've won NCs in gymnastics, softball, golf, swimming, diving, and of course, football. We let the other schools have basketball.
