Today people are stuck interchangeably use the terms liberal/Democrat and conservative/Republican. I see and hear it in news reporting too. Lazy. Intellectually lazy.

When the parties had bigger tents, they were healthier. America was better off. Compromise is how a democracy functions.

Ideological principles? I was once told by a pretty successful politician that everything but core principles were open to compromise.

Ideology did not run the parties. Ideology was more a personal thing, than part of a litmus test to belong. Few people are ideologically rigid. Those that are ideologically rigid hated the two parties. Today, as we see both parties struggling, we see the ideological battles as litmus tests.

The Canadian people had to endure 9 years of Conservative government before the Liberals rebuilt after their Quebec Patronage scandal in the early 2000's. Mind you Harper had a "minority government" for the first 5 of those 9 years because frankly, we didn't trust him. Harper finally got a majority in 2011 and lost it in the next election, because we were right not to trust him.

We have 5 parties in Canada. Trudeau's party holds the most seats in Parliament, but not a majority. If his government proposes a bill and it doesn't pass, his government falls and an election is called.. Trudeau made a deal with the New Democratic Party (far left) to vote with his Liberals and that keeps him in power. If pigs learn to fly and the NDP votes with the Conservatives, (think AOC voting with MTG), we'll be going to the polls.

At least the Democrats won't destroy the economy while Republicans rebuild. There won't be a thing left of it if Trumps gets control again.

Trump stated that the judge's daughter, Loren Merchan, works for prominent Democrats as a political consultant. The Judge Merchan acknowledged in an August ruling that his daughter heads digital marketing agency Authentic Campaigns, which works with Democratic candidates and non-profits. The judge said that didn't provide a realistic reason for his recusal, citing the determination by the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics that the case didn't involve Loren Merchan or her business either "directly or indirectly."
